Stoner Posted January 12, 2018 Report Posted January 12, 2018 When Okposo scored last night off a weird board bounce, did anyone else think about the stories of Porky Palmer? For the uninitiated, Palmer was a trainer for the Sabres who used to stand by the Zamboni door and kick the door when the puck went past along the wall, sometimes sending the puck into the slot for a Sabres' chance. It's hard to believe that was allowed. Everyone seemed to know he was doing it. The Buffalo Sabres, New England Patriots of the 70s. https://buffalo74.wordpress.com/2011/03/07/how-encil-porky-palmer-kick-started-the-sabres-of-the-aud/ Quote
SwampD Posted January 12, 2018 Report Posted January 12, 2018 Awesome. Never heard of him before. Quote

It was right in front me. The guys behind the glass were high-giving each other after the goal. Quote
Randall Flagg Posted January 12, 2018 Report Posted January 12, 2018 It may be a case of hearing what I want to, but I swear I can hear a thump right as the puck goes out in front. Quote
dudacek Posted January 12, 2018 Report Posted January 12, 2018 (edited) Porky Palmer is one of the best hockey names ever, right up there with Fats Delvecchio. Edited January 12, 2018 by Mick O’Manly Quote
That Aud Smell Posted January 12, 2018 Report Posted January 12, 2018 It may be a case of hearing what I want to, but I swear I can hear a thump right as the puck goes out in front. From the replay, it looked like it pinged off a camera that's installed in a recess in the end boards (near a GEICO ad). Quote
Eleven Posted January 12, 2018 Report Posted January 12, 2018 Fascinating stuff. I hadn't known about Palmer. Quote

Weave Posted January 12, 2018 Report Posted January 12, 2018 I thought I was really up on Sabres trivia. Never heard of him though. Quote
woods-racer Posted January 12, 2018 Report Posted January 12, 2018 That is a great tidbit of Aud folklore! Quote
Sabres Fan in NS Posted January 12, 2018 Report Posted January 12, 2018 So, was Porky the dude that swung open the door so that Schony could pound Cashman in the zamboni tunnel? Quote
Neo Posted January 12, 2018 Report Posted January 12, 2018 I knew of the strategy. I did not recall the perpetrator’s name. Grateful! Quote
North Buffalo Posted January 12, 2018 Report Posted January 12, 2018 Yeh Ray has mentioned it a few times in broadcasts but didnt know the name. Quote

Stoner Posted January 12, 2018 Author Report Posted January 12, 2018 First thing I thought of seeing that goal. It was right in front me. The guys behind the glass were high-giving each other after the goal. Interesting. Is it still possible to kick or push the modern boards and create that pinball effect? So, was Porky the dude that swung open the door so that Schony could pound Cashman in the zamboni tunnel? Wow! I had never noticed the man in the blue jacket. He becomes our umbrella man. Quote
