Stoner
After the controversial replay call in New England, Terry went on The Instigators, a Sabres-produced show dedicated to the Buffalo Sabres, and made his statement on the call. He also talked about the World Juniors. The hosts did not ask him about the Sabres, but Terry did very briefly touch on the team's scoring woes in the context of watching prospects in the junior tournament, hoping they would fill the net. After the Bills game in Miami, he was asked how it felt to finally have some success with one of his teams. The questioner specifically mentioned the Sabres. It seemed like an opportunity for Terry to throw us a bone and say something like, "And the Sabres will be next." Or "We'll get the Sabres to this point too." He didn't take the opportunity. (Actually his answer was a little vague and could be taken to include the Sabres. He said something like, "We'll keep working on it.") Then, when asked if he was looking forward to seeing Bills fans at the airport, he said wouldn't be flying back to town. "I have to go to a hockey game in New York." The wording seemed odd. He had to go? A simple question or two. Do you need to hear from Terry? Do you get the impression he cares about the Sabres? Assuming you think he does, does he need to do a better job of showing it? ubkev
I agree with you more than I disagree with you on Terry. But you've over analyzed every aspect of all of those sound bytes, in my opinion. I'd say none of it means anything. Just a whole lot of nothing. That Aud Smell
A simple question or two. Do you need to hear from Terry? Do you get the impression he cares about the Sabres? Assuming you think he does, does he need to do a better job of showing it? In order: Nope. He cares -- just not as much as he cares about the Bills. Especially when -- as the old saw used to go (still goes?) -- hockey season doesn't even start until football season is over. Nope. As posted in the Bills thread, I am pretty sure that I know who and what Terry is at this point, and what/who he is not. It is what it is; he is who he is. But you've over analyzed every aspect of all of those sound bytes, in my opinion. I'd say none of it means anything. Just a whole lot of nothing. I almost agree on the going to New York quote. It's just interesting to me that he said he had to go versus "I'm going..." The Instigators bit isn't a sound bite. It's the owner of the team going on his own Sabres show and not talking about, or being asked about, the team. To me, not being asked about them is the key. Someone told the hosts not to. Weird. MattPie
1: My guess is there was a schedule conflict where TP couldn't be at the station during the football show, so they crammed it into the hockey show. He's a busy guy; drilling wells, running the BuffaloIlluminati, looking at colleges for his kids, etc. 2: not a great answer, but realistically we're parsing language. He gave a generally positive answer that could have been worded better. 3: Q: What are you up to tonight, MattPie? A: I have to go to my motorcycle club dinner. Nothing to see here. Scottysabres
Yes, yes I do need to hear from Terry about that 2.5 million dollar retirement loan I wrote to him about, 27 times. Hey Terry, I'd like to retire, where's my money?

Eleven
"It's important to me to be with the players and fans at the airport but I have to go to a hockey game in New York" is as reasonable a translation as the negative one. That Aud Smell
I have to go to my daughter's wedding. Gotcha. I didn't hear him say it, but the way I heard it in my head was in the manner of an adrenaline-fueled business exec speaking in that context. That is: With a bit of a wink and a nod, a little gleam in the eye. Maybe some gum-chomping and a shoulder-clap-with-open-hand tossed in for good measure. Weave
I have to go to my daughter's wedding. Gotcha. I could see myself saying it that way. It’s not the best choice of words, but could have easily been innocuous.
