Stoner Posted December 9, 2017 Report Posted December 9, 2017 I remember Bromley from the 1980 series from Vancouver where he played for Canucks and played really well, but Sabres still won that first round series The entire Game 4 is on YouTube. Quote
North Buffalo Posted December 9, 2017 Report Posted December 9, 2017 You don't want this team to win a game where they were dominated so badly. Keep losing and blow it up Was thinking the same thing, they were dominated... that being said D played really well blocked a ton of shots and so did Lehner, except the softie at the end... He deserved the win. But the Sabres are rushing on the their sticks turning the puck over too much especially the forwards and except for Jack can't really pass... consistently. Quote
bob_sauve28 Posted December 9, 2017 Report Posted December 9, 2017 The entire Game 4 is on YouTube. Really? I'll check that out...again! Thirty seven years later Quote
darksabre Posted December 9, 2017 Report Posted December 9, 2017 Jack was one red hot ginger in the postgame. At first I thought he was ticked off at Harrington's question but it turned out he was in complete agreement with the premise. The way they cut off the clip, I wonder if Jack totally lost it at the end. I need more. I need Jack to go nuclear. Quote
North Buffalo Posted December 9, 2017 Report Posted December 9, 2017 Offsid... fme was wondering about that... it looked close. Quote
WildCard Posted December 9, 2017 Report Posted December 9, 2017 He did. I honestly don't understand why he's so bad at breakaways. At this point I would tell him to just go in and take a slap shot or wrister from the slot. Eichel has bad stick handling skills, a very straight forward, upright skating style, and his strength isn't lateral quickness but north-south speed. All of his strengths are exactly what you don't want in a shootout Jack was one red hot ginger in the postgame. He should bust in on net at great speed and just rifle it. Can't be worse results wise than what's happening now. Quote

Scottysabres Posted December 9, 2017 Report Posted December 9, 2017 they have been losing for many years now and already blew it up once Yea, I don't want them to blow it up. I want them to learn how to close out games. Yes, It was the Blackhawks, but puck luck and they did just enough to win this one. Honestly, how many games have we seen like this? 6? Quote
JohnRobertEichel Posted December 9, 2017 Report Posted December 9, 2017 they have been losing for many years now and already blew it up once This is what Buffalo sports message boards seem to be about nowadays: always wanting to lose for higher draft picks, always wanting to trade away players for more draft picks and prospects, always wanting to build for a future that never comes, never actually caring that much about winning games in the moment. I wonder if Buffalo Sabres/Bills internet boards were this bad in the 90's, back when our teams actually did win with some regularity. Personally, I'd much rather go on a few win streaks and have our players begin meeting expectations rather than increase our lottery chances by about 5-10%. Quote

Neither team has the talent to do that so you are going to keep on waiting for a while. This is the worst, most boring Sabres team I can ever remember. They have SEVEN wins and we are nearing the holidays Quote

Gramps Posted December 9, 2017 Report Posted December 9, 2017 I agree, but even that's never going to be as successful as we want it to be. I don't care what he does in the rare penalty shot or shootout situation if he plays like he can for 3 periods. Quote
Beer Posted December 9, 2017 Report Posted December 9, 2017 I started watching in the 2nd period. Overall I thought the Sabres were playing much better as a team. We all know it would have been a loss if it went to a shootout so I wasn’t too disappointed in the outcome. We got a point (and Lenny didn’t have to embarrass himself in the shootout). I was really impressed with Wilson’s speed. I think he will be worth the 5th rounder. It was also nice to see him get his first point. Jack was playing with some determination. He needs to work on his penalty shot (along with the entire team). E-rod is a nice addition now that he is back in the line-up. I actually liked how the lines looked last night and I can say I haven’t felt that way all year. Unfortunately, i think the hole they’ve dug is too deep but it would at least be nice to watch competitive hockey for the rest of the season. Go Sabres! Quote
PromoTheRobot Posted December 9, 2017 Report Posted December 9, 2017 (edited) How many softies from the blue line in the 3rd period (or OT) does Lehner have to give up before people stop apologizing for him? When the Sabres have a lead in the 3rd period, we all know he's going to let one in. He doesn't have what is needed upstairs to close out games. I guaran-damn-tee that he's not their goalie next year. That "softie" was deflected by Risto just a few feet in front of Lehner. Human reaction time isn't fast enough to adjust to that. It's not an excuse. It's a fact. One you obviously are unaware of. That's why NHL players try to deflect shots. It's amazing that after all the turnovers in our end, defensive lapses, giving up a 3P shorty and our star player pulling his pud on a game-winning penalty shot, you decide to hang the loss on our goalie who stood on his head, covering up for his Keystone cops teammates, all game. Wow. Just wow. Edited December 9, 2017 by PromoTheRobot Quote
Sabres Fan in NS Posted December 9, 2017 Report Posted December 9, 2017 OK. I thought the Sabres played well for the most part ... 2 times there were multiple brain farts and they resulted in the SH to tie and the OT winner. They did earn that point, but OTOH really did not deserve it seeing how they gave it up. Overall I think they are starting to put it together. I also agree that Lehner is most likely not on the team next season. Onward ... GO SABRES!! Quote
bob_sauve28 Posted December 9, 2017 Report Posted December 9, 2017 I blame the PP. Y es, they finally got a goal, but another SH was just unacceptable. Then they couldn't pop in an insurance goal. PP must get much better Quote
Stoner Posted December 9, 2017 Report Posted December 9, 2017 Really? I'll check that out...again! Thirty seven years later It's from HNIC. It's pretty cool. I tend to agree with your observation on a big chunk of the fan base. I believe it's because we're all looking for alternate ways to enjoy a crummy product. Lots of fans are into prospects, drafts, scouting. Many are into analytics. I can't talk. I use this board as hockey Viagra. That "softie" was deflected by Risto just a few feet in front of Lehner. Human reaction time isn't fast enough to adjust to that. It's not an excuse. It's a fact. One you obviously are unaware of. That's why NHL players try to deflect shots. Wow. Just wow. There was a replay where they were trying desperately on the broadcast to see a tip and let Lehner off the hook, but they didn't see it. I didn't either. I still say Lehner was fooled by the shooter. He was expecting a shot from his left and would have seen it despite 55's placement. Instead the shooter stopped, pulled the puck back and sent a shot to Lehner's right. Lehner should have been able to see it had he read the play. It's funny that preceding the game Dom Hasek was being interviewed on some MSG show and he was emphasizing that seeing the puck was the most important thing to him. "I must see!" He did everything he could to see it, even, he said, if it meant he put himself at some disadvantage. Quote
bcsaberks Posted December 9, 2017 Report Posted December 9, 2017 Ouch, to good to be true. 6 guys on the ice, great job. Just noticed that. Defining moment of season? Eichel needs to be $ in OT penalty shot. His e-leet talent drew the penalty but finish or you are Brian Holzinger. 8 goals in 29 games zzzzzzz. And Risto needs to figure it out. Sure lots of minutes and love the rough stuff but come on dude, no naps allowed. Quote

Stoner Posted December 9, 2017 Report Posted December 9, 2017 I think he's spot on. It's what Terry's two franchises have been feeding them, and 95% of fans are lemmings. Jack talked about all the advice he was getting at the bench before the penalty shot. Is that a good thing? I think I'd prefer the shooter to be by himself with his thoughts. Pommers is saying go high glove, Kane is saying five-hole, Larry Larsson is saying try the puck in your pants trick. Paralysis by analysis? Jack just played in the game and should have an idea of how to beat this goalie. In addition to the scouting they would have done before the game. Quote
