Eleven Posted December 26, 2017 Report Posted December 26, 2017 I can't believe that first goal counted against Finland. What a joke. It's the same review crew from the Bills game on Sunday. Quote
TrueBlueGED Posted December 26, 2017 Report Posted December 26, 2017 If Nylander doesn't show anything this tournament, I'll officially be worried. And I say that as someone who has been borderline an apologist for him this far. Quote
WildCard Posted December 27, 2017 Report Posted December 27, 2017 If Nylander doesn't show anything this tournament, I'll officially be worried. And I say that as someone who has been borderline an apologist for him this far. He'll rack up points I'm sure. I'm more concerned with how he actually looks though Mittelstadt scoops this out of mid-air for the goal https://twitter.com/BuffaloSabres/status/945836202648797184 Quote
French Collection Posted December 27, 2017 Report Posted December 27, 2017 I know it was only Denmark but Mittelstadt looked really good. He skates well and is what I call nifty. It could be too cute against strong D but he is a good puck handler. The power play seemed to revolve around him. Quote
WildCard Posted December 27, 2017 Report Posted December 27, 2017 @Matt_Bove Mittelstadt was stellar in his first game at KeyBank Center, earning @usahockey's player of the game. Finally something for #Sabres fans to be excited about #WJCinBUF @WKBW https://www.wkbw.com/sports/sabres/mittelstadt-shines-in-keybank-center-debut-as-usa-rolls-to-9-0-win-over-denmark… Quote
Taro T Posted December 27, 2017 Report Posted December 27, 2017 My limited review (saw most of the 1st 3 games in person, & the 4th on tv) of Sabres prospects. Budik was disappointing but not awful. He's ALWAYS looking for the quick pass & if the Bylsma 110 footer is there, he's going for it. Though the only 2 times it was there (both in the 1st) he barely missed & both were icings. He also grabbed a puck in the neutral zone & waved it around long enough to get a 2 for delay of game. He was their 6th D, but got PK time against Russia's 2nd PP & played well there. He's big & good in front of the net but wants to go for the home run & consistently misses. See him as a 5-6 at high end. (Realize that's after ONE game. He may work out. Just don't want any money on it.) Nylander - only saw the 1st 2 periods of his game, but White Russia only had 2 shots in the 1st & the 2nd was set up by a BEAULTIFUL pass from Alex at Belarus' s BL to the guy that went in alone on a breakaway. He also got knocked down on EVERY corner/ board battle. But he also found a puck in the corner after that in the 1st & sent a pass through the crease that PA could've scored. He stunk in the 2nd until the pass he made in the 1st that went the wrong way became a seriously sweet goal. After that, he moved the puck before getting knocked down. My guess is, if he gains at least 15 lbs, he'll be very good. If he doesn't put on another #, he'll have 15 more NHL games than I've got. He's probably somewhere between that. If he's a 2nd line winger, it helps. But unless he gets a LOT stronger that's his seriously best case scenario. At present, he peaks at PP specialist 4th liner. (Basically, Moulson or Kotalik w/ no size but speed.) Davidsson was fun to watch. He's the 3rd line C & a BEAST along the boards. He won almost every board battle he was in & could easily have had 2 assists as he won the puck & put it on tape 2' outside the crease. Mittelstadt - player of the game in s 9-0 W. 'Nuff said. (Watched on TV.) Dahlin may not be the 2nd coming of Lidstrom or Karlsson, but he is AT WORST a 3. He's likely a top 2 for 12-18 years. Let's have this Sabres squad end up w/ a 4%ish chance & actually luck out. Quote
WildCard Posted December 27, 2017 Report Posted December 27, 2017 Well, the world really likes us and Vancouver https://twitter.com/SabresProspects/status/945487011972112384 Quote
darksabre Posted December 27, 2017 Report Posted December 27, 2017 I'm definitely starting to buy into the Mittelstadt hype. Everything just looks good right now. Quote
Brawndo Posted December 27, 2017 Report Posted December 27, 2017 Two things I noticed about Mittelstadt, his feet where always moving and something that Housley will love, he consistently covered the Point when a D Man was carrying the puck in Quote

(I'm joking but I'm also seriously hoping the Sabres prospects in the WJC this year can miraculously save this franchise so that's a thing.) Quote
Thorner Posted December 28, 2017 Report Posted December 28, 2017 (edited) Nylander is less than impressive so far, atrocious without the puck. Nice PP goal just now, though. Edited December 28, 2017 by Bjorn Borg Quote
MODO Hockey Posted December 28, 2017 Report Posted December 28, 2017 What a fkn beauty from Nylander!! NICE! Quote

darksabre Posted December 28, 2017 Report Posted December 28, 2017 We all know Nylander has talent. It's just a matter of developing a game that translates past "being good at U20". Quote
Thorner Posted December 28, 2017 Report Posted December 28, 2017 We all know Nylander has talent. It's just a matter of developing a game that translates past "being good at U20". Right. Scoring on the PP against the young kids from the Czech Republic in a juniors tournament was never something I've doubted he could do. Still, a nice shot. Quote
MODO Hockey Posted December 28, 2017 Report Posted December 28, 2017 We all know Nylander has talent. It's just a matter of developing a game that translates past "being good at U20". Agreed. But hopefully this can be a changer for him, his injury obviously also hurt his confidence. He is not yet himself, hopefully on a good way to become that after this tourney. Quote
Robviously Posted December 28, 2017 Report Posted December 28, 2017 Right. Scoring on the PP against the young kids from the Czech Republic in a juniors tournament was never something I've doubted he could do. Still, a nice shot. He IS a young kid playing against those young kids. Can everyone maybe not be in a rush to crap on him? He's a great skater and has an NHL shot. He needs to add strength to play at the pro level in North America but that's something fixable. I honestly wished we'd have just left him in the OHL for a year or two to work on his game. Another brilliant move by Murray last year to rush him to the AHL. Quote
MODO Hockey Posted December 28, 2017 Report Posted December 28, 2017 Nylander player of the game, good good. Quote

I never said he wasn't a kid. I'm just saying we all know he has the talent to score at this level, and he does. It's a start. It just doesn't mean anything until we see it translate. It's not crapping on him it's just a fact. Quote
Robviously Posted December 28, 2017 Report Posted December 28, 2017 Nylander player of the game, good good.Save us, Non-Toronto Nylander!!!!!!!!! What's your point? I never said he wasn't a kid. He's literally the only Sabres prospect I can remember that gets a "Yeah, but...." when he scores in the WJC. Quote
