Thorner Posted October 25, 2017 Report Posted October 25, 2017 Larsson couldn't manage to get Jack a point there.. Decent win. A win is a win! Quote
LGR4GM Posted October 25, 2017 Report Posted October 25, 2017 Did we seriously just win a 1-0 game? After watching this team for the first few weeks I would have never guessed that scoreBaby steps. Gotta build off of this and be better next game. Quote
JujuFish Posted October 25, 2017 Report Posted October 25, 2017 First time all season we didn't score 2, but 1 was enough. Yay! Quote
LTS Posted October 25, 2017 Report Posted October 25, 2017 Nicely done. Could have been a better game but I think there were some subtle improvements in their game. They forced Detroit into many icings. Lehner played well. Detroit hasn't been good in the past stretch of games but it's a game you have to win and they did it. Quote
The Dominator Posted October 25, 2017 Report Posted October 25, 2017 GREAT GAME!!! All around GREAT effort from everyone! Lehner as steady as I've seen him, mostly disciplined play throughout the night, and just a very rewarding game to watch Quote
dudacek Posted October 25, 2017 Report Posted October 25, 2017 Who was it that called the Lehner shutout? Well done. Quote
LGR4GM Posted October 25, 2017 Report Posted October 25, 2017 Larsson couldn't manage to get Jack a point there.. Decent win. A win is a win! So smart of Jack though to slow that play down. He killed as extra 5-10 seconds but stopping and dumping that puck to Larsson Quote

As a friend of mine loves to say when playing a team that isn't looking good, you gotta win the games you play. Quote
Doohicksie Posted October 25, 2017 Author Report Posted October 25, 2017 wow 1-0 SO, I'll take it however we can get it... Like a horny 13-year-old, amirite? Quote
Randall Flagg Posted October 25, 2017 Report Posted October 25, 2017 (edited) Gritty. Love it. They needed a game like that. Hopefully that helped Lehner's confidence and lets him get dialed in. If we're constantly rotating these two we have problems. We need Robin to give us no reason to start Chad. Defensive zone play from everyone was very very good. Pouliot in particular had several takeaways at the top of the blue line. Now that things have started to settle down and they're plucking monkeys off their back, it's time to get working on our transition again. We have spacing and support issues. Reinhart, ROR, Pominville seem to be the only guys that can create those exciting plays from within 5 feet of the blue line on either side of it. Getting better at our positioning and passing will open things up once we get into the zone and allow for a lot more high quality chances than the endless perimeter play that we see now. Maybe just maybe this team is figuring out how to finally play... I do not recall this calm of a Lehner but if it makes a winner I'm all for it... . Quote
Huckleberry Posted October 25, 2017 Report Posted October 25, 2017 Good for Lehner, nice shut out :D Quote
miles Posted October 25, 2017 Report Posted October 25, 2017 really exciting game to watch. i was able to watch on the tv. it was nice to see it on the big screen Quote
hockeyhound Posted October 25, 2017 Report Posted October 25, 2017 The message is getting through, good job Coach. Quote

Randall Flagg Posted October 25, 2017 Report Posted October 25, 2017 (edited) I'm wondering if Risto is taking the fan definition of being a shutdown D-man too literally. Dude. Pass the puck to your teammates. I get that sometimes you just need to chip it because you have no other play, but when your whole team is there with you and ready to go, stop just mindlessly giving it to the Detroit defensemen so that they can set up and do what you should have. darksabre Posted October 25, 2017 Report Posted October 25, 2017 Gritty win. I still hate Kane with Eichel. But the O'Reilly line was good. Lehner earned that shutout. Agreed, the trick will be to add the transition game to the effort and movement seen tonight. I worry about them slowing their feet down to try and think faster. They need to keep building and keep this foundation. Quote
dudacek Posted October 25, 2017 Report Posted October 25, 2017 That boys and girls, was a real NHL victory: two teams playing hard, playing smart and the good guys being a little bit better. Haven’t seen many of those in the past five years. Quote
Randall Flagg Posted October 25, 2017 Report Posted October 25, 2017 Gritty win. I still hate Kane with Eichel. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure these two have played a part in one even strength goal together over the last, like, nine games. Jack & Zemgus did 3 in 4 periods before being broken up. Quote

Doohicksie Posted October 25, 2017 Author Report Posted October 25, 2017 Pssst..... Sabres are 2 points away from a playoff spot. Quote
Pokey Jones Posted October 25, 2017 Report Posted October 25, 2017 Whichever goalie is in, can we get a game with 2GA or less? Just this once? Pretty please? Ask for this more often ok? Wow, a shut out, that's new. Gonna just kick back and enjoy the feeling for tonight. Another step forward. Quote
