Brawndo Posted October 23, 2017 Report Posted October 23, 2017 #Sabres have signed the man, the myth, the training camp legend, Cliff Pu to a three-year entry level deal @WKBW Per Bove Quote
7+6=13 Posted October 23, 2017 Report Posted October 23, 2017 (edited) I like this move. This is the start of interjecting young talent into the lineup. Hopefully this will be the start of a few draft picks finally contributing. Zack Redmond called up too. Sometimes a change or two can make an impact. Possibly JBot and Housley see this as a "feeling out" type of year. Edited October 23, 2017 by 7+6=13 Quote
qwksndmonster Posted October 23, 2017 Report Posted October 23, 2017 They'd rather have him learning on the Amerks than stuck on a juniors team. That seems like a good move. (As long as he can hang in the A) Quote
That Aud Smell Posted October 23, 2017 Report Posted October 23, 2017 Can Pu play in Rochester? Quote

It kicks in when he turns pro, which is expected to be next season. So does that mean he's not coming to rochester OR buffalo this year? Quote

Taro T Posted October 23, 2017 Report Posted October 23, 2017 I would assume they're worried about getting him up here for 9 games on an emergency call up? That, or Botterill & the agent reached an agreement on what he was worth & the Sabres want him concentrating on "developing" rather than "earning" closer to a max entry level deal. It does seem that Botterill is more efficient than his predecessor when it comes to contract negotiations. Quote
GASabresIUFAN Posted October 23, 2017 Report Posted October 23, 2017 Pu will hit the A next season. Who knows if this is a good signing for not. He is talented and considering the lack of talent in Rochester that was drafted by the Sabres, every warm body will be welcome. Now we have to hope he develops better then the last 3rd rd pick with promise (Baptiste). As a pt of reference Nick had 45g and 44 assists in his 3rd Jr season. Pu had 35g and 51a in his 3rd jr season. Quote

It seems like just a regular signing of a junior player they feel looks promising, who they had the rights to until next June. Drafted junior players often get signed mid season. Quote
Scottysabres Posted October 23, 2017 Report Posted October 23, 2017 But will he become......"the dragon warrior"? Quote
Crusader1969 Posted October 24, 2017 Report Posted October 24, 2017 This was pretty well a done deal once Housley gushed over him in Training Camp Really like this kid, seen him play 4 or 5 times plus numerous times on tv. He will eventually bring speed, smarts and offensive ability to the bottom 2 lines of the Sabres I won't rule out a jump to NHL next year. 3 full years in London may be all the development a player needs. Hopefully a spot on the cdn WJC team will be on the horizon as well Quote
dudacek Posted October 24, 2017 Report Posted October 24, 2017 Can we expect some roster movement? (How many horrible puns do you think we can plop into this thread? And how long until someone complains?) Quote
Sabres Fan in NS Posted October 24, 2017 Report Posted October 24, 2017 I had a few dates in High School with a girl with the last name Pu. Boy, that was fun. Quote
LGR4GM Posted October 24, 2017 Report Posted October 24, 2017 (edited) He'll have a chance next year. I think after this season he's AHL eligible. This is the year to sign him. I'd expect him to go Rochester for at least 1 full season. Edited October 24, 2017 by LGR4GM Quote
MattPie Posted October 24, 2017 Report Posted October 24, 2017 Too bad he can't wear number 2 I thought we were done squeezing out excrement jokes, but then comes this nugget! Quote
SwampD Posted October 24, 2017 Report Posted October 24, 2017 (edited) I wonder if he asked for a no-movement clause. EDIT: dang. duda beat me to it. Edited October 24, 2017 by SwampD Quote

Pokey Jones Posted October 24, 2017 Report Posted October 24, 2017 I dunno. Maybe. Hope so. Who can say. He's stinking the joint up in London this year but who knows. Quote
LTS Posted October 24, 2017 Report Posted October 24, 2017 I'm glad he's signed on. He's shown some real promise so hopefully he will develop into that solid middle 6 player. Quote
