That Aud Smell Posted October 20, 2017 Report Posted October 20, 2017 Your best bets for wings in Buffalo are Gabriel's Gate (on the subway) and Thirsty Buffalo (not). There are a lot of really nice dining options within walking distance of the arena, but none are sports bars. There are even nicer dining options, in every price zone you can imagine, in the Elmwood Village (which includes the aforementioned Thirsty Buffalo for wings). That area is about a $10 Uber from the arena, based upon my one experience now that Uber is here. We also are close to Canada, and one of our long resident posters, d4rksabre, dances at a club there. You'll have to ask him for the details. There is an amazing Chinese restaurant called Ming Tei, and the casino up there is nice. Gabriel's Gate is still where it's at for wings, in the city. And then you also have the option of having wings there, and then rolling down the street to Allen Burger Venture for gastro-pub burgers (if you so desire) and a huge beer selection. I'll concur with the Elmwood Village scene. Many watering holes available. As for Ming Tei in Fort Erie, it remains good (and you cannot beat the view) but it is not what it used to be since the principal chef and artist sold to employees and retired. Quote
French Collection Posted October 20, 2017 Report Posted October 20, 2017 My son and I have ticket packages for the WJHC in December. He's not old enough to drink but I will keep some of these ideas I mind. We are staying at the Harbour Center Marriott and will be walking. Thanks for this info. Quote
Iron Crotch Posted October 20, 2017 Report Posted October 20, 2017 I miss Canada. It was a great place to be a 17 year old American high school student with a good set of colored pencils (Remember the NY driver's licenses with the matte finish on top? Yeah.), and a pocket full of loonies and twoonies. We have to be about the same age. Chalk and a pencil and voila, legal in Canada! That was back in the era of open borders where they'd ask two questions at the border checkpoint, then send you on your way: 1. Where do you live? "Buffalo" 2. Where are you going? ....An acceptable answer to #2 was "GTR." Quote

Eleven Posted October 22, 2017 Report Posted October 22, 2017 We were there today and it was excellent and I've eaten Italian for 59 yrs.. Must of been a good day. I had four grandparents who were Italian. From all over the country. Chef's does not resemble Italian food in any way other than basic shapes and colors. (Actually, the meatballs aren't bad. Nor is the cannoli. But that sauce, and that pasta, and the fact that they use "parm" as a verb!) Quote

inkman Posted October 22, 2017 Report Posted October 22, 2017 I'm just not a fan of their sauce. As someone who bottled their sauce professionally, I can attest it wasn't good. Almost every other sauce we made was better. It was close to this sauce we made for this guy who put tums into his sauce for people with digestion issues. Needless to say, nasty. Quote

inkman Posted October 22, 2017 Report Posted October 22, 2017 You did this to us? You did this to America? Yo they gave us the recipe, we just upscale it and put it in a jar. Very rarely do customers allow us input on there formulas. Wegmans being the exception. A wonderful business partner they are. FYI, we bottle Wegmans, Tops, Barilla, Classico, Publix, Reggano (Aldi), Newman's, and our brand Francesco Rinaldi. We used to take on smaller brands like Chef's but we've out grown the small fries as it just doesn't work financially. Quote
inkman Posted October 22, 2017 Report Posted October 22, 2017 Ugh, sauce in a jar.... Yeah it's not preferred but there is a need and it's provided me gameful employment for 18 years. Quote

I'm not proposing a ban on it. There's 4 shelves of it in the supermarket for a reason. Just like there's a whole aisle of frozen pizzas and instant microwaveable breakfasts. Quote
