LGR4GM
Heard the audio and instigators talking about it but Housley suggested Reinhart could see time at center. "There is a lot of great talent especially up front with Jack and Ryan and maybe even Sam might play some center. That's starting right down the middle. That's a pretty good 1, 2, 3 punch. We're going to move guys around, guys that played wing play center and guys who played center play wing and this is going to be part of the evaluation process." - Phil Housley Edited September 12, 2017 by LGR4GM

nfreeman
Did they say specifically that Housely said it? Or were the meatheads themselves just speculating as to what might happen?

dejeanerret
Funny how everyone has been railing Reinhart when he hasn't even played his natural position. Give the guy a shot at center and then label him whatever if he doesn't play well.

(Hasn't been a great day, but still) I'd be shocked if Hously *didn't* go through an evaluation process, even if the Sabres were a championship team. nfreeman
It sounds like he hasn't decided one way or another, but he's open to seeing whether Reino's best use is at center. I like it.

dudacek
Really got the idea that Howie sees the depth of "natural" centres (Jack, Ryan, Sam, Larry, Zemgus, and Josefsson) and is considering giving them all looks both in the middle and on the wing to see what he has. Thorner
LIger can you please insert a happy dance gif here for me? Yup. This is great news. It's not that I demand that Reinhart plays centre, it's that I just want them to give him a real shot there. If he takes off at that position, awesome. If he doesn't and they decide he's best utilized at RW, then we have that worked out, and Sam will have more certainty to work with. And they can always re-evaluate at a later time or if a spot opens up.

Pokey Jones
If you don't trade Reinhart then imo 3rd line center is the logical place for him to play. I suspect however, he does not consider himself a 3rd liner and that will lead to contract issues down the road. I think all Housley is really saying is it's all new and he will try everyone everywhere and the best fits/players will play wherever they fit best. He'll probably try Eichel as a winger too but most of the experiments will be just that, experiments. He will have roles and he will see who can fill those roles best. If Reinhart really blossoms as a center (I'm skeptical), then we may see ROR moved to Eichel's wing, which I would be OK with. ROR can still play the pivot on the PK and take dzone draws... not a big deal. Him and Eichel with Okposo would be a good line I think.
