Randall Flagg Posted August 8, 2017 Report Posted August 8, 2017 Mathews had 69 points last season. He had 40 goals. Is he going to be able to get 20 more assists? Why not? Jack went from a 56 point pace to a 77 point pace, and goals are harder to score than assists are to get, especially as a center on a high scoring team. Matthews was essentially a 70 point rookie, top 20 in NHL scoring. Getting 20 more assists makes him 2nd overall last season. Quote

I think his goal total falls and his assists rise, but I don't think he's ever going to have his assists eclipse his goals; basically I think he reaches about 80 points tops, and that's with him getting about 45 goals. WildCard Posted August 8, 2017 Author Report Posted August 8, 2017 That's incredibly specific! Little odd way of reaching that conclusion but there it is  I've essentially capped him at 45 goals for his career, and 90 points overall. Quote
LGR4GM Posted August 8, 2017 Report Posted August 8, 2017 I don't think Auston Matthews will be top 5. Top 10 probably but not top 5. Call it bias or a hunch but just my feeling. Quote
