Holzinger won the Hobey Baker & also not only failed to check Hull but ALSO managed to obstruct the ref's view which allowed the league to move the decision upstairs. We all know how that turned out. The LAST thing I'd look for is a Hobey Baker. Some winners are awesome, and some are Dawesome. (No, Jason Dawe did not win an HB. :p)

Winning the Hobey Baker was certainly the weak spot on Jack Eichel's resume given Holzinger's play on Hull when Eichel was a toddler...wait, what?

I really couldn't care less. He would have been a nice depth piece but from his perspective a better opportunity does exists in NJ.

On top which he partnered with the Santini kid on D when they played in Developmental league according to Santini's Uncle.

Winning the Hobey Baker has little correlation w/ a player being good or not in the NHL. Really couldn't care less if a player has one on his resume.

There really aren't many trends among the winners.  These are the only ones that somewhat stick out to me:

1. Non-seniors who have won it look to have had decent NHL careers.  There are definitely a few duds among this list

2. Defensemen who have won it also have had decent NHL careers.  It's a very short list though.  The last defensman to win it, Matt Gilroy, never really amounted to anything.  But then again, he won it at 24 years old (and wasn't even the best player on his team), so he was already at/near his ceiling.

3. Win it as a freshman and you're gold. :worthy:

Players who have won it as a senior?  It's a total crapshoot.

So you're saying a 22yr old is different then a 18yr old.

Age matters when discussing prospects.

Of course.  That's something you need to remember when it comes to the Hobey.  Typically you're talking about an upperclassman who is closer to his ceiling already than the typical prospect.  And we're not talking about 22 year olds either.  You'll see 23 and 24 year olds landing the award at times too.

What about 20 year old goalies?

Got it! Prior comment had me a bit confuzzled. :-)
