It's worth it to shell out the $5-$10 a month for a reliable VPN, I don't have any suggestions because I haven't used one for awhile.

When I used to subscribe to gamecenter back in the day you were unable to log in and watch simultaneously from multiple accounts.

Good feedback -- thank you.

When I use Popcorn Time, it recommends that I use a VPN. Is anyone familiar with that setup?

FWIW, I have always been able to stream multiple games simultaneously on my account, one on iPad one on Apple TV.

SurfEasy is a decent VPN, which I use; dunno if it has a desktop application though

160$ divided by 12 months in not anywhere close to 200$ per month. Pro sports are on the verge of pricing themselves out of markets. IMPO I think pro sports have gotten a little to big for their own good.

You're not paying for it over 12 months though. At best they break it down into 4 or 6 payments and it starts close to when the season starts (They usually start charging for Sunday ticket in August and Center Ice in September or October). Since football and hockey start in the fall you're getting hit with both charges at the same time (at least in October, November, and December).

I think most people can agree that it's getting way too expensive. I threaten to cancel my directv every year around mid to late August when my 1 year contract ends and despite getting big discounts in exchange for renewing for another year I still feel like I pay too much. I haven't had Center Ice for several years and I'm ditching Sunday Ticket this year. Having both would give me a bill in excess of $200 come October. Instead I'll pay around 70 without either package (if they cut me the same $50 off/month for 12 month deal they cut me last year) or I'll cancel service and just stick with Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, and illegal streams. On top of that I pay 50 per month to Spectrum for 60 MBPS internet.

I appreciate the guidance. Is there a free, reliable VPN service that you'd recommend?

Also, is there anything preventing someone from streaming on multiple devices? To be more specific, if I were to go in with someone else and split the nhl.tv package, could we both use one account log in, which means only one bill, and watch from separate streams?

I pay for a VPN via Private Internet Access. It worked very well for me all last season and you can cancel anytime.

Has anyone with either TW/Spectrum or DirectTV tried to stream MSG or NHL Network? Does that work?

I've never found it to work. They always seem to blackout sports if you're watching via their online application.

You cannot stream MSG via any source.  The broadcast agreement for MSG forbids any streaming except via MSG delivered methods.  It's not market related.

And of course MSG is stupid... so..

They control the rights.. you can stream it on MSG Go and you can only get MSG Go as part of a cable subscription.  Derp.

Also MSG Go is not available via directv yet unfortunately.

Other than NHLtv.

Was that both through the VPN and from attempting to access directly in the local market? (I am assuming you are in the Buffalo-area.)

VPN doesn't help with those two unfortunately. MSG just isn't available to stream and neither is NHLN.

I was just looking at my directv account online. Even though my new statement hasn't officially posted yet, I can still see the upcoming charges for my next statement tomorrow under the recent activity section. Looks like my bill dated for July 25th will have an auto charge of $46.99 for Sunday ticket, plus $3.29 in taxes. That means without any discounts the package is $281.94 without taxes and $301.68 this year with the added 7% taxes for my state.

$300 for the privilege of watching the Bills stink up the joint again. Not happening. I think I'm gonna see what kind of deal they'll be willing to cut me with the Sunday Ticket still on there in order to hold that $300 charge over their heads and then cancel Sunday Ticket in a separate call.

This will mark year 2 that I will not watch a single football game. I can't wait!

I'm done giving them my money for sure. If they don't give it to me for free, I'll stream it. If I can't do that I won't watch. I don't need the aggravation or the hous of commercials.

Oh, I pay a helluva lot more than that.  I go to the local Bills Backers bar and typically spend $30 or more on food and drink.  Win or lose, though, it's fun getting together with other Buffalo expats.

You're getting food and drinks though. If you look at it that way the games are actually free. $300 is a ton of money to watch 30 minutes of game action and 30 minutes of nonsense wrapped in 2 hours of commercials. I used to get the short cuts and they can literally show you every single play in less than 30 minutes. Especially when I only care about the Bills. I don't go out of my way to watch Green Bay beat up on the Raiders or all the other games I really don't care about. I don't do the fantasy football thing so I have no interest in watching random games of teams I care nothing about because I need some random tight end to get 37 more yards in order for me to defeat my buddy from high school or some random office coworker. Fantasy football is just another way for the league to get its hooks into you.

I get the peace of not throwing , screaming at the TV, not scaring my dogs, and my wife actually doesn't hate Sunday anymore.
