Marco Scandella/Jason Pominville traded to Sabres for Ennis/Foligno

Scandella and Pominville were a combine 0 +/-,  Scandella a -2, Pominville a +2.

Ennis and Foligno were a combined -11.

Scandella/Pommer have a team relative +/- of -10.

Ennis/Foligno have a team relative +/- of -2.

It's clear who the winner is in this deal.

It just appears to be a wash unless I believe Pommers is really better.

$5.6 million in cap hit for a guy who put up 47 points last year is way f'n better than a $4.6 million cap hit for a guy who put up 13 points last year. We got a way more productive player so they can save $1 million in cap space.

So, does this trade & the fact that it didn't happen @ the draft mean the Sabres realize they aren't getting Shattenkirk & went Plan B?

could be that they talked and that he informed them he had better offers, but also hasn't this deal been brewing for a while now? There's been talk of the wild and sabres working on a deal for asking or longer then the interest in shattenkirk rumors. Maybe they want both? It allows them to dump bogo and gorges for whomever is willing to take on the contracts. Maybe this move also convinces shattenkirk that they are in a win now mode instead of wasting a bunch of years for the devils to get back to a playoff contender status?

Interesting take.

If they do end up w/ Shattenkirk could end up seeing Kane & Bogosian in some sort of a package for a winger. Wouldn't have thought Evander & Zach would be linked together again, but hey, you never know. & they wouldn't have to chase for a D-man in return.

The D would definitely be a slight strength (no true top guy & IMHO Ristolainen is the only true top pairing guy (& that could proveout to be a reach/ wishful thinking) but at least 4 & possibly up to 7 (by next year) true top 4 guys. If your 5&6 are really 3-4's you can make do w/out that true top pairing.

Minnesota fans are not happy with this.

The best sign there is

Those are just facts

Well, in fairness, there aren't a lot of (or more precisely, any) places &/or trades to be made that somebody would be happy getting Ennis at this point in his career.

Foligno should fit in nicely there as they really didn't have anyone w/ his skillset & Scandella was an awfully expensive 5. Again, not thrilled that Pominville has 2 years on his deal at his pricetag, but he should be useful both years. Surprised the Sabres only had to give an upgrade of a 4th to a 3rd to make it happen. The salary differential was appaerently quite valuable to the Wild.

Would like to point out to everyone who said Foligno was garbage: he and $2.5 million will get you a second pairing defenceman, and that's not even counting the fact that Pominville is better than Ennis.

Does these mean that Sam Reinhart doesn't have to be a RW anymore and can be a center?

Yes

How do you figure?

Let's keep in mind that the Buffalo stats are Bylsma stats.

Only the bad stats tho, right?   The good stats, like Eichels ppg, are because of the players overcoming Bylsma's attempt to sabotage the team.    Am I doing this right?

I'm glad Foligno is gone, he sucked, he's not NHL caliber IMO.    Sad to see Ennis go, thought he was primed was a big season.

I'm gonna miss the sliding, one knee, goal scoring celebrations of Ennis...... (not that we've been seeing many lately) and here's to hoping that the concussions are a non-issue in his future. I'm also gonna miss the milk commercial.

As for Foligno, I've enjoyed watching the physicality of his game, when it showed........ but that's about all.

agreed.

The 5th post suggests Ennis is a center... lols

I figure that Pommers and Okposo are our #1 and #2 RW's. Is this wrong?

safe to say that adding Pommer and Vanek as a UFA frees up trading Kane and they should replace his lost offense. I love a line of Jack with both Pommer and Vanek...and trading Kane should bring either young prospects or draft picks (or both)...and yeah obviously no Shattenkirk

haven't signed Vanek and I still disagree about trading Kane. We finally get a fast, strong winger who can score and people want him traded

I do not necessarily wish kane traded IF we are going to re-sign him...if we aren't then yes trade him NOW. Do not let him walk next summer for nothing.

As for this trade, getting a top-4 d-man is a steal in the trade. I loved Tyler but one more hit and  well he is in serious trouble. Foligno fought okay but who fights much anymore? Certainly not either of the Cup finalist. Pommer can obviously do so much more then either player we gave and I am dumbfounded Minnesota gave us such a good d-man for basically nothing. Our defense just  became very good...
