Sabre fan Posted June 24, 2017 Report Posted June 24, 2017 Keep hearing and reading where the sabres are very interested in kevin Shattenkirk. Obviously his asking price will be off the charts, and I have no idea how we can (could) sign him with Moulson, Bogo, Gorges and Ennis all on the books making huge money between them. No question he woul dbe a key acquistion but the cost seems to be too high for us. What do you think? Quote

I think 1 or 2 of those contracts won't be in their current capacity come September, traded, bought out, or buried in the minors. Quote
LikeEich Posted June 24, 2017 Report Posted June 24, 2017 (edited) Even with those contracts we could still make it work, check it out at capfreindly.com Next season gorges is off the books, buy out Bogo or Moulson, shouldn't have a problem resigning Eichel Reinhart. Huckleberry Posted June 24, 2017 Report Posted June 24, 2017 Only if we can get bogo to go away Quote
Rasmus_ Posted June 24, 2017 Report Posted June 24, 2017 I would say it's contingent on Bogosian being moved. I don't see enough spots. As he's a righty, and really a one trick pony PP specialist. He'll use Buffalo for leverage and go to NYR. Who just moved a bunch of cap. Quote
LGR4GM Posted June 24, 2017 Report Posted June 24, 2017 I'd rather try to get Brodin or Dumba or someone like that. Quote

gomper Posted June 24, 2017 Report Posted June 24, 2017 He wanted no part of that Leaf 4th line in the playoffs. No thanks Quote

ct fab Posted June 24, 2017 Report Posted June 24, 2017 We are 21m under the cap, or something like that, with bad contracts. Coming off the books over the next 2 years. We can afford him, so can NYR. Where do you think he signs? Quote

Brawndo Posted June 24, 2017 Report Posted June 24, 2017 Larry Brooks who covers the Rags for the New York Post mentioned in an article that the Rangers do not appear to be interested in Shattenkirk as they got hamstrung by Girardi and Stephan's Contracts recently. Not sure if this is his opinion or info from a source Quote
Brawndo Posted June 24, 2017 Report Posted June 24, 2017 I have mixed feelings about this. I think his contract would be too expensive for his production, but on the other hand he fits Housley's System very well. Botterill did say this at his Presser per Tom Martin Doesn't anticipate making a "big bang" but will try to find good value and add depth. That doesn't sound like they will be in the Shattenkirk Hunt Quote
IKnowPhysics Posted June 24, 2017 Report Posted June 24, 2017 Somebody else mentioned in some other thread: Shattenkirk is good. Shattenkirk under Housely is better. Plus, at noon on July 1, who is the Sabres' threshold replacement player? Falk? One of the things I don't like is his usage: he's been sheltered, which either says his past performance could be situation-dependent or he's not trustworthy in his own end. Quote
Weave Posted June 24, 2017 Report Posted June 24, 2017 when I think of signing shattenkirk the first thing that comes to mind is Christian Ehrhoff. Probably not fair, but that is my reaction. Quote

IKnowPhysics Posted June 24, 2017 Report Posted June 24, 2017 When it comes to Leino and Ehrhoff... Quote
dudacek Posted June 25, 2017 Report Posted June 25, 2017 I like the Ehrhoff comparable: good player, not worth a big ticket. Quote
ct fab Posted June 25, 2017 Report Posted June 25, 2017 Nyr bought of girardi and traded stephan Quote

ct fab Posted June 25, 2017 Report Posted June 25, 2017 True but Brooks also said that apparently before they traded stephan and bought out girardi. Quote

jsb Posted June 25, 2017 Report Posted June 25, 2017 I'm not a great fan but why would we want a player who plays defense that scored 56 points last year and has averaged almost 43 points a season for the past 7 years and we have a coach who was a offensive defensive man??? How many forwards did we have that scored more, 1 maybe??? What does that say about our forward group if this guy can't play for us??? Quote
