darksabre Posted June 24, 2017 Report Posted June 24, 2017 We got a fat American kid who can skate and shoot like Phil Kessel? Damn...! And sorry I'm late. I was out in the barn doing some pull-ups. ...sorry, did I say doing? I meant wearing. Finally, a good post in this thread. Quote
Huckleberry Posted June 24, 2017 Report Posted June 24, 2017 More worried about him being the worst in VO2 test. Guess if anything a season of two working out might make him look even better. Quote

North Buffalo Posted June 24, 2017 Report Posted June 24, 2017 Can't learn how to get stronger, can't learn talent... agreed can't learn talent and he has it in spades, but yeh he can learn how to get stronger... and as was said above high school players don't do a lot of weight lifting... get him in UM personal trainers and turn that babyfat into muscle in a year he will be. SDS Posted June 24, 2017 Report Posted June 24, 2017 Future Consideration: "A smart, quick and highly skilled center…has a tremendous first-step jump, change of pace and ability to make defenders miss…though not the biggest or strongest player on the ice, he finds success in loose puck battles by using his smarts and insane ability to shield the puck from defenders…never takes a shift off, and has added noticeable muscle and speed this season…will finish chances with a quick release on a wrister or powerful snap shot…puckhandling skills are excellent and he is able to create scoring chances in almost all of his offensive-zone shifts using his great vision and understanding of the game" Our best prospect, no? Jesus. He added muscle this past season? What was he before - a spaceship extra in Wall-E? Quote
bob_sauve28 Posted June 24, 2017 Report Posted June 24, 2017 He was expected to go higher. I wonder if the college free agent thing scared teams off? Quote
LGR4GM Posted June 24, 2017 Report Posted June 24, 2017 He was expected to go higher. I wonder if the college free agent thing scared teams off?No, what scared them off was him playing high school, him having a meh physical combine, and him not getting 6'5" 220lbs of muscle. Teams are dumb. Quote
tom webster Posted June 24, 2017 Report Posted June 24, 2017 He was expected to go higher. I wonder if the college free agent thing scared teams off? The college free agent thing is so over-rated. No top end prospect is going to stay in school and forego $900K for 2 or 3 years just to become a free agent in 4 years. Quote

He wants to improve himself and learn and grow! Just kidding Quote

So it hasn't happened in 13 years, so by all means, let's whine and bitch like it's the end of the world. Also, while we complain about drafting college players, lets also turn around and worship the wall of Eichel posters on our wall. We've been burned by a grand total of one college guy we drafted in the last ten or so years. Clearly there's a trend here. Quote

woods-racer Posted June 24, 2017 Report Posted June 24, 2017 But what about Jimmy!? :p That was a bad move by FGMTM. Nothing more. The whole hockey world saw it coming because his agent said he was going to test the market. Quote

ct fab Posted June 24, 2017 Report Posted June 24, 2017 Vesey was a third Rd pick who did nothing in college until his number junior year. Casey will sign in buf after his sophomore year Quote
woods-racer Posted June 24, 2017 Report Posted June 24, 2017 (edited) Vesey was a third Rd pick who did nothing in college until his number junior year. Casey will sign in buf after his sophomore yearKind of comparing apples and oranges with those two players. If Casey gets to his junior year and doesn't look like an 8th overall pick that should be easily looking at his ELC being shoved at him by the Sabres, then Sabres haven't done their job scounting and developing a prospect. Edit, not you CT. You hit the nail on the head saying they are to dissimilar for comparison. Edited June 24, 2017 by Woods-Racer Quote

You're right; for some reason I thought he had announced that he was going to leave college beforehand. Like around the time of the "Buffalo I'm comin' for ya" video. Quote
Norcal Posted June 24, 2017 Report Posted June 24, 2017 I've come around on this pick, I like it more today than yesterday Quote
bunomatic Posted June 24, 2017 Report Posted June 24, 2017 Baker had Mittelstadt ranked at #3. Great pick. Quote
