GASabresIUFAN Posted June 24, 2017 Report Posted June 24, 2017 We'll have to wait and see Sekera in 2004 was the last D we drafted in the 3rd to play a top 4 role with the Sabres. Doesn't matter, Jbot, aka TM jr is drafting another forward. Quote

All joking aside I am a little disappointed that we haven't done more to fix the defense now or in the future. Edited June 24, 2017 by LGR4GM Quote
Robviously Posted June 24, 2017 Report Posted June 24, 2017 Martin is what you usually get with 3rd rd D.You usually don't get much in 3rd round anyway. And how do you know they didn't pick Martin because they were trying to draft for need that year? Quote
LGR4GM Posted June 24, 2017 Report Posted June 24, 2017 okay, let's see if we take a defender here. Several options that could be top 4 guys. Hope we get the right one. Quote
Eleven Posted June 24, 2017 Report Posted June 24, 2017 They had to cut to commercial right then?! Quote
Thorner Posted June 24, 2017 Author Report Posted June 24, 2017 Another trend establishing is that I don't think Bottz likes taking players from the CHL. Its College and Euro across the board. Quote
GASabresIUFAN Posted June 24, 2017 Report Posted June 24, 2017 Worst draft I have seen in a long time. Quote
LGR4GM Posted June 24, 2017 Report Posted June 24, 2017 Worst draft I have seen in a long time. The 3rd round was certainly garbage. back to back reaches. Quote
rakish Posted June 24, 2017 Report Posted June 24, 2017 Worst draft I have seen in a long time. In 2014 I got off the Tim Murray bus Quote
GASabresIUFAN Posted June 24, 2017 Report Posted June 24, 2017 In 2014 I got off the Tim Murray bus Kevin Devine - the one consistent factor. This draft has been painful to watch. Does anyone have Laaksonen ranked in the top 500? Quote
Mustache of God Posted June 24, 2017 Report Posted June 24, 2017 O'Reilly - Eichel - Reinhart Nylander - Mittelstadt - Okposo Potentially a killer top 6. I'd rather see Reinhart at center on the 2nd line but that future does seem bright. Quote

Elite prospects puts out a list of about 600, neither of Laaksonen and Brinson made it, but they are bad at overagers (Brinson is overage) Edited June 24, 2017 by rakish Quote

jeffismagic Posted June 24, 2017 Report Posted June 24, 2017 Draft doesn't look good so far. Feels like the 2014 draft. Quote
rakish Posted June 24, 2017 Report Posted June 24, 2017 Laaksonen is 17. Yeah, I edited that statement because it was both confusing and wrong Quote

Randall Flagg Posted June 24, 2017 Report Posted June 24, 2017 How anyone can feel so strongly at this point, and not 3 years down the road, astounds me. Quote
bunomatic Posted June 24, 2017 Report Posted June 24, 2017 (edited) How anyone can feel so strongly at this point, and not 3 years down the road, astounds me. 100%. Some here have invested too heavily in plotting a course for this team and when it doesn't align with their order it becomes a whine fest. Come back in three or four years and pass judgement. Robviously Posted June 24, 2017 Report Posted June 24, 2017 How anyone can feel so strongly at this point, and not 3 years down the road, astounds me. It's actually amazing. It's been universally acknowledged for months that this wasn't a very strong draft and now people are freaking out because we didn't take the players that we were supposed to take based on the rankings. Our first three picks all seem like good value and then we started swinging for the fences and going off the board starting in the late 3rd round. I would have preferred Farrance but I'm fine with going high-risk that late in the draft. You never know. Plus I'm still expecting GMJB to make a move that re-shapes our roster in a significant way this summer. It's not all on the draft to fix things. Quote

TrueBlueGED Posted June 24, 2017 Report Posted June 24, 2017 Fans day 1: I can't believe we didn't reach for a defenseman! Fans day 2: I can't believe we're reaching for defensemen! :p Quote
Robviously Posted June 24, 2017 Report Posted June 24, 2017 There is a difference between swinging for the fences and taking guys that were so far off the radar no one has even heard of them. So you want them to swing for the fences but with safe picks that everyone has heard of. Got it. Quote

And the guys who everyone has heard of are still barely more likely to be NHL players than you or I. We're talking about the 3rd round of the NHL draft. I know drafting's important, but we're talking about the 3rd round. Not the 1st round. Not the 2nd round. We're talkin about round 3, man. Quote
