MattPie Posted August 29, 2017 Report Posted August 29, 2017 (edited) So good. And now I'm trying to figure out what famous cartoon character(s) the no-eyebrow image above reminds me of. I think the monopoly guy or Wimpy from popeye, but I'd have to look. Oh Natty Boh. Edited August 29, 2017 by MattPie Quote
WildCard Posted August 29, 2017 Report Posted August 29, 2017 Naming rights for a sports venue can be quite lucrative, as will be the case for the Air Canada Centre. On Tuesday, it was reported that the home of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Toronto Raptors will undergo a name change next July 1, with the Scotiabank Arena being its new name. According to TSN, Scotiabank will pay Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment close to $800 million Canadian in the sponsorship deal, which will run for 20 years. The deal is considered to be the most lucrative naming rights deal in North American sports history. That’s a far cry from the deal the MLSE struck with Air Canada in 1999, as those rights paid out an average of $4 million per year. https://www.fanragsports.com/news/historic-deal-results-in-air-canada-centre-name-change/ Quote
Randall Flagg Posted August 29, 2017 Report Posted August 29, 2017 I mean it's fitting because it looks like the face of their franchise for years Quote

shrader Posted August 29, 2017 Report Posted August 29, 2017 https://www.fanragsports.com/news/historic-deal-results-in-air-canada-centre-name-change/ Don't they already have the naming rights to Ottawa's arena? That should make things nice and confusing. Quote
Thorner Posted August 29, 2017 Report Posted August 29, 2017 Ok, this is just hilarious. Weave Posted August 29, 2017 Report Posted August 29, 2017 According to the Twitters, even Alex Ovechkin is reporting leaner this year. Anyone else thinking an unpublicized change in how the rules are enforced may be coming? Quote

Eleven Posted August 30, 2017 Report Posted August 30, 2017 Shane Doan has retired Honestly, I didn't know that he played last season. I'm serious. Quote
LTS Posted August 30, 2017 Report Posted August 30, 2017 Shane Doan has retired Unfortunate it had to come AFTER the organization said it would not re-sign him. He's a class act and has been the cornerstone of that franchise forever. They are undertaking a new direction and it'll be interesting to see where it goes. Quote

LGR4GM Posted September 1, 2017 Report Posted September 1, 2017 Boston, still stupid http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/bruins-president-want-pastrnak-boston-contract-makes-sense/ “To be honest with you, we haven’t really gotten a response on what they’re looking for,” Neely said at the Bruins’ Fanfest in Providence, R.I., according to Steve Conroy of the Boston Herald. “But I feel confident we can get something done. I think David has expressed that he loves it here and wants to play here. We want him here for as long as it makes sense for us.” In what way would it not make sense to Boston? Does he want McDavid money? Quote

That Aud Smell Posted September 1, 2017 Report Posted September 1, 2017 What's this Boston player's story? A comparable player or two? I think with the Sabres being so non-competitive for so long, I've really lost track of what other young players in our division are doing, etc. Quote
