We need to stop trading multiple assets, especially young assets. We will need those cheap cost controlled contracts sooner rather than later.

Good post - I liked this especially.

I'm not sure you appreciate how good Pastrnak is. You're going to have to part with a prime asset for him...and he'd be worth it.

I know I have no frickin' clue.

What's the consensus on a reasonable deal? Is it Reinhart and we get this player and something back (or like a swap where we upgrade)? Is it a prized prospect and a pick?

Pastrnak is easily worth Reinhart as we sit right now. It would probably take Reinhart and something like Nylander or maybe you get them to take a pick but we would need to add to the deal from our end. Reinhart is coming off of a nice 47pt sophomore season. Pastrnak is coming off of a 70pt 3rd season. The interesting part is that Pastrnak has only played 5 more games than Reinhart. So right now Pastrnak as a RW is worth more than Reinhart. My issue is that our prospect pool is thinner because Eichel and Reinhart are already NHL players. We are getting that depth back with Nylander and Mittelstadt + the continued improvement of our later round guys. If you trade Reinhart and Nylander or Reinhart, Nylander, Guhle for Pastrnak you are losing more cost controlled assets and depth to add more high end expensive talent. We also do not know if Reinhart can bring his game up closer to Pastrnak level and make the trade irrelevant. To me it isn't the right time to trade a group of cost controlled assets. If you could trade Kane and a pick for Pastrnak than sure do it but that isn't enough to get the job done.

Pastrnak is probably asking for 7.5m+ and the Bruins are balking. Their highest paid player makes 7.25m. He scored 70 points last year and he is 21.

Welcome back, good summer so far?

I think the + will include 2 of Guhle Nylander and Mittelstadt. Pretty steep but I would consider it.

I would trade any one of Reinhart, Mittelstadt, Nylander, or Guhle in a package for Pastrnak, definitely.

But not 2 of them, in any combination.

I'm actually balking on dealing Reinhart for him, on closer inspection. Reinhart had a higher points per games played in his sophomore season than Pastrnak did (granted, Reinhart was one year older at the time). Pastrnak had his big breakout in season 3, right about the time where players often have them, and Sam's is this coming season. AND it's hard to argue that Reinhart's talents were maximized in Bylsma's system.

Seems like a sell low, buy high situation to me. I'd probably still make the trade, considering Pastrnak is a little more of a sure thing at RW, but at the first sniff of "Reinhart back to centre" talk from the powers that be, I'm not swinging at that trade pitch from the Bruins.

Sorry, watching baseball.

oh, I follow you now.

Yeah i was hoping he would be a late addition as JBOT was hinting that there might be some moves closer to the beginning of the season.    I've always liked Cullen's game, and he's still plenty fast for his age.

Edmonton is definitely in Cap trouble now, especially if they just paid 8.5 for a winger. McD and Draisaitl are I think roughly the same % of cap as Toews and Kane are, but they had success before those big deals.

Lucic deal now problematic. RNH as good as gone.

I'll happily take Reinhart for 1/2 to 3/4 of that Draisaitl $, on a bridge, considering I think he'll probably end up just as good. And Jack will get less than McDavid.

Good, gooood.

Did anyone mention this?  Cal O'Reilly has a contract with the Minnesota Wild.  For those who may not remember, he was loaned by the Sabres organization to the Toronto Marlies in March.

On July 1, 2017, O'Reilly left the Sabres as a free agent, signing a two-year, two-way deal with the Minnesota Wild.

I think it was pretty obvious he didn't have a future in Buffalo.  Good luck in Minnesota, Cal.

Based on what we've seen from both, that's incredibly bold.
