So Utica it is, then, because getting an Uber in Rome is near impossible.

Also, what's the date?

It’s Tues Sept 25. I’ll bet the teams will stay at the Turning Stone Casino if they stay overnight.

And then there’s this:

Now, the next question is: Will the NHL preseason game be played at Clinton Arena — which was famously rebuilt after a fire burned the building first finished in 1949 — or the Adirondack Bank Center at the Utica Memorial Auditorium? According to Orsino, that decision will be made mid-June. He has been in talks with the NHL, and it is his indication that the league is picking between the historic village of Clinton rink or the downtown Utica staple.

Is there anywhere else to stay?

Seems a bit disingenuous to play anywhere but the building that was awarded doesn't it?

If it's not in that building, I'm not going.

Are you kidding?? There's a lovely Econo Lodge in Rome. It's in a terrific part of town right past some railroad tracks next to a Denny's where I saw a man stabbed to death. Then there's the Rome motel, the Hotel Utica and I'm sure there's a red roof inn somewhere in there.

No, seriously, Turning Stone is the only place to stay.

Looks like there's a Doubletree in Utica.  I think I'm going to do that.

Turningstone is annoying.

Remember all the rinks in Youngblood? It's like that, but crappier.

That sounds perfect!

There’s a lot of brand hotels around, even some just outside the casino near the Thruway. But there’s not any right near the Clinton Arena.

This is still pretty much how the inside of the arena looks before the makeover.

There is word tonight that MIN is preparing to name Paul Fenton its new GM. Not sure of timetable for announcement, though.

Per Friedman

Fenton finally gets his shot. Interesting

Kypreos: "Talks with Tavares and Lamoriello, I heard they went well, at least he is interested in hearing what Lamoriello has to say...Listen, a week ago we thought there was no hope for Tavares to re-sign with NYI, at best now people are telling me, 50-50" #Isles

I'd say this is exactly the reason he's there.  They had to know that Tavares had little confidence in the leadership of the organization.  Lamoriello at least brings a level of competence.  Whether it's enough remains to be seen.

Well now I want to know why Toronto pushed him out of the door

From the NYI release:

"The New York Islanders announced today the hiring of Lou Lamoriello as President of Hockey Operations. He will have full authority over all hockey matters with the organization."

Pretty sure the plan was for him to only stay there for 3 years when he signed on. Really doubt he was pushed out as much as he didn't want to be part of a decision making team. He was THE man in Joisey & will be again (unfortunately) on the Island (Brooklyn is on LI ;)). Darn shame, liked having Snow calling their shots.
