Are we among the lower counts in the league?

Good to have flexibility, I guess.

Also:

Hearing many instances of teams having players drop weight this summer. Some as many as 15 pounds. All about speed.

Jesus, what pro athlete even has 15 pounds to drop?

If everyone is pushing to get leaner/faster you'd think the natural progression would be away from slowdown contact since everyone will be lighter.

It's a cycle.    The league moves to smaller/faster..... tips just a bit too far in that direction such that a big physical team has some success and the league trends back the other way... wash, rinse, repeat.

Is it possible the league is trending back towards the post-04/05 lockout speed and agility model just in time for us to be good again?

Think about how many fewer players are in the league that skill guys had to expect to defend themselves from? Now is a great time for the league as a while to be getting faster. Edited by We've

My only guess is worrying less about being "jacked", as the kids call it, and working more on quickness and stamina.

Get Casey up here, Stadt!

Dustin I am looking at you....

Do you mean the guy that had the highest TOI last year?

I have no problem with his conditioning or stamina.

I think he needs to get nastier and play a more physical game this year.

Everyone is saying they are pairing up Kuli with Buff so that should make a hard hitting duo.

Yeah I am talking about the Buff that Toews used a trail of twinkies from his locker to the weight room to show him where it was.  Great player not always the best physical specimen.  I shudder to think how good he could be if he was committed to better physical training.

Drew Stafford signs with the Devils

The Devils have signed right wing Drew Stafford to a one-year contract worth $800,000.

Nice.    I've always liked his game.     IMO he got a bad rap because expectations were simply to high for him.     He was not a goal scorer in college, but he showed flashes of that ability so everybody just kinda expected him to continue to improve in that department when in reality his skill set is more suited for a 3rd line winger who can play 2 ways and chip in offensively.

September is creeping closer on the calendar, and the Matt Duchene trade scene may be poised to heat up.

“I think so,” said NHL Insider Darren Dreger during a Friday morning appearance on Buffalo’s WGR 550. “We’ve talked about this – generally in the media – for the past several months, better than a year. But now it’s reached that point where it definitely feels like the Avalanche are in a position to get something done. Joe Sakic recently saying that he’s listening to offers. Now, I think that’s different than where he was at, say, going into the draft because the demand for Matt Duchene – to many NHL general managers with interest – were just unreasonable.

“The Nashville Predators definitely had interest and I’m sure do have interest in Matt Duchene, but going into the draft and on the draft floor, they just weren’t willing to give up the defenseman that Joe Sakic felt like he needed to get in return for Matt Duchene as part of a package.

“Now, general managers don’t take holidays at any point in the season. They try and take some down time in August, so the sense is – from at least from Matt Duchene’s side – that things could heat up in the next week. That doesn’t mean a trade is imminent. But that means that NHL general managers will be back at work full time and perhaps looking at their roster and recognizing that, ‘Okay, Duchene is still available, so let’s make our next push.’ "
