spndnchz Posted June 19, 2017 Report Posted June 19, 2017 Well... Preseason schedule is out. 2017-18 season schedules are coming out 3 o'clock this Thursday. Did you here that Ott is now an Assistant Coach for the Blues? Quote
Mustache of God Posted June 19, 2017 Report Posted June 19, 2017 Anyone have an eye on any specific games? I'm curious to see when the Sabres play in Vegas and when they're coming to Barclays & MSG. They only played 1 away game vs. both NY teams last year so I believe they're due 4 times in the city and then once again for the Winter Heritage Classic Stadium Outdoor game. Quote
Sabel79 Posted June 19, 2017 Report Posted June 19, 2017 LeBrun tweeting that Shane Doan is done in Arizona (but still mit look elsewhere, maybe). Most of this board wasn't alive the last time he wasn't on that franchise's active roster... Quote

The dude is beyond "lost a step" at this point. Quote

Sabel79 Posted June 19, 2017 Report Posted June 19, 2017 Not to beat this dead horse further, but here's where I do the joke where I'm shocked they didn't resign him to a max contract so long as he promises not to play ever again. Quote

If I were LV, depending on how the drafts and trades go I'd consider it on a one or maybe two year deal to teach the kids. Quote
woods-racer Posted June 19, 2017 Report Posted June 19, 2017 He is 40. There's no much left there, if anything really Frickin dude is OLD! He's due for Viagra, reading spectacles and prune juice. Get off my lawn youngin :P Quote

ubkev Posted June 19, 2017 Report Posted June 19, 2017 To teach them what? There's nothing left for him to impart as a player. This is where I'm at with "teaching vets". ROR is the age of a vet who should be teaching rookies. You don't have to be 40 to know how to play or teach this game. Quote

LGR4GM Posted June 19, 2017 Report Posted June 19, 2017 I think younger players respect on ice ability more than some older player saying well I did this thing once and am older so you have to listen. Hard to lead by example when you are nearer the end of a wonderful career... unless you're Jagr, the mofo refuses to age. Quote

LGR4GM Posted June 19, 2017 Report Posted June 19, 2017 No, Jagr. Oh yes, that was why I thought of him. Quote

Not everyone ages at exactly the same rate? Cullen can still skate. Doan's legs, which were there that great in the first place, are toast. He just can't move out there anymore. Is it so shocking that a guy who played the style he played losses "it" while another doesn't? Quote
LTS Posted June 20, 2017 Report Posted June 20, 2017 Dude put up 30+ points this year. That's not bad. His play hasn't fallen off a cliff yet either. The Penguins are a much more offensive styled team than Arizona who sucked. Not everyone ages at exactly the same rate? Cullen can still skate. Is it so shocking that a guy who played the style he played losses "it" while another doesn't? Possible... people definitely age differently. I haven't watched him play in awhile... but I was thinking that just dismissing him because he's 40 seems to be focused on the wrong metric. Quote

He's like the winger version of Josh Gorges, on a west coast swing, playing his 5th game in 5 nights, after having partied til 5am. Dude has no legs. Might as well be playing sled hockey. Quote

Weave Posted June 20, 2017 Report Posted June 20, 2017 Not everyone ages at exactly the same rate? Cullen can still skate. Doan's legs, which were there that great in the first place, are toast. He just can't move out there anymore. Is it so shocking that a guy who played the style he played losses "it" while another doesn't? Skating is 100% of it. It is no coincidence that the guys that play into their 40's are guys who were great skaters and didn't lose their legs. Recchi, Patrick, Teppo, Jagr, Cullen, Chelios, Selanne, Larionov, Roberts, Oates, Alfredsson, Francis. The mediocre skaters that can play that long are few and far between. Andrechuck, Hull, maybe Messier? And 2 of those 3 were solidly in the dead puck era at 40. Anytime someone bemoans picking up an older free agent it usually prompts me to consider how well they skate before I lay judgement. I still have no problem with Gionta. Guy still has his wheels. I think he's still effective. Different role, but effective. Quote
