Davis Payne hired as associate coach per Sabres

Has been with the Kings the past five seasons

Also per Sabres

In addition, Andrew Allen returns as goaltending coach, and former scout Seamus Kotyk will become the team’s goaltending development coach.

Has experience as a HC with St Louis, complied a winning record with them as well.

The move is being praised on Twitter by Kris Baker and Jon Rosen on NHL.com

Payne is an interesting choice.  He worked primarily with the forwards and oversaw the  power play with the Kings.  Will Housley work the defense and let Payne run the offense?  Makes sense due to Housley's experience, but not sure how many teams' HC runs the defense.

Housley will add another assistant to work with the defense and probably PK.  He will work with both.

Scott Stevens would be a great add.  Spurgeon, Brodin and Dumba really took off under his tutelage.  He stepped down because Minny was too far away and his family is in Westchester.

Remember from the introductory presser, our defense will be our offense too.

Payne, who worked primarily with the forwards, oversaw a power play that ranked 27th in 2013-14 (14.8%), 10th in 2014-15 (19.0%), 8th in 2015-16 (20.0%) and 15th (19.1%) in 2016-17. Cumulatively, the Kings operated with a power play that operated at an 18.1% success rate between 2013 and 2017, which tied for 19th in the league.

It wasn’t only the forwards and the power play that Payne oversaw, but also the comprehensive implementation of the team’s structure and detail along with Darryl Sutter and John Stevens.

I like the Dineen hire.  Experienced with defensive expertise.  Seems to have fallen out of favor with the Marlies.
