Randall Flagg Posted June 16, 2017 Report Posted June 16, 2017 It sounds like, at the very least, we'll have a lousy system and a coach who actually communicates with players. This worst case scenario is already a step in the right direction. Let's hope the guy and his assistants can coach a hockey team too. Quote

7+6=13 Posted June 16, 2017 Report Posted June 16, 2017 If they are luke warm on Reinhart but feel the need to buck up the confidence of Moulson and Ennis then I question their intelligence already, at least compared to everyone who seems to be proclaiming them mensa members during this honeymoon phase. If they plan on moving Reinhart or Kane they should be pumping up their tires rather than the bums that we're hoping Vegas does us a favor and takes as a personal favor. I didn't take Housley's comment in his opener presser as a plan. He was asked about the talent on the team currently and mentioned Moulson and Ennis (and others) what appeared off the top of his head. It seemed more like he threw their names out there in an effort to show he knew the team a little bit. It was seconds after his snafu about signing his contract 3 days ago. "But then just looking at the roster, quickly" - then he mentioned Moulson and Ennis. I just cannot assume it means anything about Sam at this time. Quote

Randall Flagg Posted June 16, 2017 Report Posted June 16, 2017 Did the Buffalo News ask how he could possibly live with himself after signing with a team that had the audacity to tank years ago? Quote
Randall Flagg Posted June 16, 2017 Report Posted June 16, 2017 Housley gave another interview here https://soundcloud.com/siriusxmnhl/phil-housley-was-on-the-power-play-w-laughlinsxm-realposullivan where he mentions center depth and only says the names of Eichel, ROR, and Zemgus.Bott just needs to keep Reinhart long enough for these guys to see him skate in a couple practices. How in the hell is Zemgus not the odd man out here? Quote
Jsixspd Posted June 17, 2017 Report Posted June 17, 2017 How many here actually feel Ennis or Moulson can "regain old form?" I already know the consensus on Bogo Negative. The luster is gonna wear off our shiny new car fast if Moulson, Ennis, Gorges, Gionta, and a bunch of do-nothing slugs are still camping out on the Sabres bench this fall. Quote

If they say the same things in October then maybe I've been wrong and Sam's a winger. Keep in mind I didn't hear him mention Larsson either. Quote
spndnchz Posted June 17, 2017 Report Posted June 17, 2017 Did the Buffalo News ask how he could possibly live with himself after signing with a team that had the audacity to tank years ago? No but Harrington they ask him how he was going to deal with the assistant general manager Jack Eichel. Quote
Ducky Posted June 17, 2017 Report Posted June 17, 2017 I thi nk Housley will turn into a good coach. Would love to have him coaching our D. A LOT of Selanne's 76 goals in his rookie season were set up with a pass by that short sticked D man. He ended up with 79 assists that year. I don't know too much about systems and coaching but I think he will have great ways of clearing the D zone in a safe, smart way. A great teacher by the sounds of it. Have some parience with him though, he'll make some rookie mistakes. Quote

WildCard Posted June 17, 2017 Report Posted June 17, 2017 (edited) Housley, a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame, has been a coach for Team USA, has won Gold at the World Cup of Hockey, and has a history of connecting with young stars and bringing out their best. http://thehockeywriters.com/buffalo-sabres-dynamic-duo-botterill-housley/ Is the bold true? I can't find anywhere to confirm that Either that's a lie, or the author is unbearably ambiguous and Housley was a player in the previous World Cup of Hockey when USA won it. Housley was an AC on this year's team, but we all know how that went https://www.nhl.com/news/world-cup-management-teams/c-783503 Edited June 17, 2017 by WildCard Quote

WildCard Posted June 17, 2017 Report Posted June 17, 2017 https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1996_World_Cup_of_Hockey_rosters The order of that sentence implies he was a coach for the World Cup of Hockey and won Gold. That's a very misleading line IMO Quote

LGR4GM Posted June 18, 2017 Report Posted June 18, 2017 You know the biggest difference I see in Bylsma versus Housley? Housley is a winner and Dan simply isn't. Quote
Derrico Posted June 18, 2017 Report Posted June 18, 2017 You know the biggest difference I see in Bylsma versus Housley? Housley is a winner and Dan simply isn't. Lol. Come on man, there are a million reasons why housley will be a better coach then Bylsma but this is not one of them. Stanley cup is ultimate goal and housley holds the record for most games ever played to never win the Stanley cup. He's also never won it in his 4 years coaching. Bylsma came over with a Stanley cup coaching ring and one of the best winning percentage as a coach in NHL history. Quote

The same team that has won back to back cups after firing him. Bylsma is a loser, plain and simple. Quote
