And you guys know that Hjalmarsson trade just happened, right?

Holy ######.

Chicago just got hosed twice...

I'm confused on where to talk about trades but I guess this is it.

The Chicago Blackhawks will trade Artemi Panarin to the Columbus Blue Jackets for fellow left-winger Brandon Saad, according to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman.

The Blackhawks will also acquire goaltender Anton Forsberg in the deal, while centre Tyler Motte will be heading to Columbus.

Patrick kane can't be to happy about this, Saad worked better with toews.

You asked for a reason.  You didn't say it had to be well thought out. ;)   How about he plays 3rd line center this year with two average wingers.  GMs see poor results and don't think he's a good enough center for 3rd line work and has proven to be just an average winger.  Can we get more today for Sam than we get next year as an average 3rd line center?

IMO it wouldn't be enough more to be worth watching to see how Sam develops here this season.

If the return is Hanifin or more, I wouldn't hate the trade now, but I don't think we'd get that. I'll take the risk to watch him play this season because I don't think it's a risk at all.

How so

They gave up a good defenseman for a relatively small amount of goods, instead of Taylor Hall, so maybe the market for defensemen just got a lot nicer, as in maybe we can get Tanev without giving up Kane/Reinhart, or something like that.

Ahh there it is on the local feed.  Wow.  I would say they are retooling on the fly and have to be in on Shattenkirk.

Shattenkirk, Keith and Seabrook would be a pretty good top 3.

I was just going to say, maybe this is a move to bring Toews's scoring back from extinction, trying to get as much value out of that contract as they can.

And I don't think Murphy sucks, so there are plenty of worse top 4s if they do get Kevin.

per Dreger

Sounds like another big Arizona trade is in works. Raanta and Stepan likely to Coyotes. 7th overall could be part of it and DeAngelo.

Hahaha. All this talk about Arizona needing to go get a center, defense, and a goalie, from Dreger about an hour ago.

Fast forward 60 minutes and it's all accounted for.

So the Rangers are finally starting their rebuild.

You're sure that Sam will be as good, if not better, this year. I think he may be as good, but could be worse this year.  That's the difference.

Mhm, and I think the overwhelming majority of cases show young 21 year old high draft pick high hockey sense players taking steps forward in their career at this point, not falling back, and if I were to think otherwise then that would cause a slippery slope and make me quite paranoid about Jack, who's already close to his physical ceiling and doesn't quite have the hockey sense of Sam.

OEL - Hammer is a sick Swedish top pair. Goligoski is still there. Chychrun can take a step forward. They're all left handed, but Hammer plays the right side better.

@DarrenDreger
Leafs fans...I'm told Toronto is among the teams with strong interest and an offer in on Travis Hamonic. As you were

@DarrenDreger
I believe Toronto, Calgary, Detroit and Tampa Bay in hard. Arizona was also interested, but Hjalmarsson trade may change that.

It's from a Twitter Account named NHL Rumors, so a LARGE grain of salt is needed, but they are reporting the 21st Pick might be in play for Kane

That would be the NYR

What do the Rangers have that we want? #21 + ?

This has been a fun stretch. Thanks Expansion Draft/Hawks sweep.

Panarin - Wennberg - Atkinson is going to be one of the best lines in the league low key

Wonder if Dubouis gets called up too

Detroit? Man, talk about a team in deep denial about where they are.

Not what the Rangers have, but 8 + 21 gets the 2 first rounders that the Isles want for Hamonic.

I really don't know anything about Hamonic. Is he even that good / worth it?

Neither do I. The point production isn't even close and the cap hit is $6MM for both players. The only difference is 2 years of control for Panarin v. 4 years with Saad. Is that really worth a 30pt difference/yr?

Someone tweeted that Saad is more valuable to Toews than Panarin is to Kane.

And we're about to see whether Panarin really is that good without Kane.

Someone else tweeted that Pekka Rinne has driven Stan Bowman to the point of insanity, which I found funny.
