LGR4GM Posted June 9, 2017 Report Posted June 9, 2017 Do you buy (re-sign him) or sell (trade him)? Quote
Drunkard Posted June 9, 2017 Report Posted June 9, 2017 Give him a bridge deal and make him practice shoot outs all summer. Quote
dudacek Posted June 9, 2017 Report Posted June 9, 2017 I don't think you can give him a bridge deal. He's entering his seventh season. Unless there is some goalie rule or CBA nuance I'm missing, he should be one year away from UFA status. Quote

The shoot out performances are still a serious concern. It has the potential keep us out of the playoffs in any given year. Quote
GoPre Posted June 9, 2017 Report Posted June 9, 2017 (edited) I like lehner. I'd give him five x five. I also like him, but that is too long. The Sabres are going to re-sign him. I don't see it going past 3 years. A few starting goalies around Lehner's age are averaging 4.8 million a season. 5 million might be the amount he signs for. Wouldn't give him more than that though. pi2000 Posted June 9, 2017 Report Posted June 9, 2017 Vote buy. I think he's the best option for next season. Offer him a 3 year deal at $4 per. Or if GMJBOT decides he's a lockerroom cancer, then do something else. Quote
dudacek Posted June 9, 2017 Report Posted June 9, 2017 I think my preference would be two years at $4 million each, then negotiate an extension next summer if he cements himself as the starter. It could bite us if he lights it up, and either walks, or forces us into something a lot pricier, but I think we'll just end up getting more of the same. Quote

This is just stupidity. We traded a 1st in a deep draft for an unproven injured young goalie. Now this guy suggests trading him two years later after he has proven himself, is healthy and we need a starter for a 2nd in a mediocre draft. Edited June 9, 2017 by GASabresFan Quote

I'm not interested in committing to him for more than 2 years. He's solid but at this point certainly replaceable. If he crushes it this year then give him an extension. Quote
Sabre fan Posted June 10, 2017 Report Posted June 10, 2017 not too sure why we are in a big rush to dump this guy when he is still very young (by goalie standards) and we paid a hefty price for him in the first place. I have no way of knowing whether he may be a "cancer" in the dressing room but otherwise by all means sign the guy and move forward onto more important issues such as our defence. Antinpin was good start but there's still work to do there and with the defence getting better, Lehner will look and play better too Quote
Huckleberry Posted June 10, 2017 Report Posted June 10, 2017 wouldnt give him over 4.5 a year long term though. 5x4.5 mill is a nice contract I think. Quote

You shouldn't take spent assets into the equation, it's simply how much is he worth now and how replaceable is he. I'm on the "he's fine but replaceable" train. Quote
dudacek Posted June 13, 2017 Report Posted June 13, 2017 If we traded Lehner, does Cal Petersen sign? Do we think Petersen or Ullmark is capable of being Lehner's equal, or superior? When? Who do you sign as a stopgap? Elliott?, Bernier? Mason? Dare I say Ryan Miller? Can we make the plAyoffs with one of these guys? Who would want Lehner? Flames? Coyotes? Flyers? Jets? Quote
