nfreeman Posted May 31, 2017 Report Posted May 31, 2017 A bit more on Briere vs Vanek: If you take the 10-season period for each of them that starts with their respective 2nd full NHL seasons, Briere had 603 pts in 701 regular-season games for 0.86 PPG, while Vanek had 601 pts in 736 RS games for 0.82 PPG. In the playoffs, Briere had 116 pts in 124 games, while Vanek has 34 pts in 63 games. So Briere was slightly more productive in the RS and much, much better in the playoffs. Not to mention Briere's undeniable superiority based on eye test, leadership, clutchness and the fact that since leaving Buffalo, no NHL team -- or his Olympic team -- has been happy with Vanek. Sabel79 Posted May 31, 2017 Report Posted May 31, 2017 Yet Ennis and Zemgus scored 12 goals combined. Which is because they are both terrible. Quote

inkman Posted May 31, 2017 Report Posted May 31, 2017 $50 says Vanek would pot 25 goals here next season. I know one Austrian that would get down on that action Quote

Marions Piazza Posted May 31, 2017 Report Posted May 31, 2017 Not taking four first round picks to sign Vanek was a worse idea, IMO The 4 picks the Oilers would've given up were, 08 1st round pick (Colton Teubert-LA pick since EDM traded back), 09 1st round pick (Magnus Paajarvi-Svensson), 10 1st round pick (Taylor Hall), and 11 first round pick (Ryan Nugent-Hopkins) The first two? Busts, but, then there is Hall and RNH. I don't think that you can assume those would've definitely been the exact picks since Vanek would likely have made them a better team changing the draft orders. If we want to discuss it assuming those would've been the guys, then yes, we would've been better off. Hall would've replaced Vanek, and RNH is probably a career 2nd line center that hasn't lived up to his 1st overall status would still have been nice, but would the addition of those two had changed the tank and not given us Eichel? BuffaloBorn Posted June 2, 2017 Report Posted June 2, 2017 (edited) "Is he going to skate like Kane? No. But I bet if you put him on Jack's wing he's going to open up some space for Jack" but that bum reinhart cant keep up with eichel trade him for vanek and a conditional seventh Edited June 2, 2017 by BuffaloBorn Quote
