9) Eric Clapton - Unplugged

10) Steely Dan - Can't Buy A Thrill

Dang even 10 is tough

Putting together the list at a different time would likely result in a different list, but at present, Taro's Deserted Island 5 would include:

Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here

Triumph - Just a Game

The Mighty Mighty Bosstones - Let's Face It

Tubes - The Completion Backwards Principle

Toy Matinee - Toy Matinee.

Wondering the same thing myself

It's basically the off season and people aren't slicing each other apart (unless you count the Beatles boy band kerfuffles). I'm good with it. Nothing wrong with music.

And The Tubes makes an appearance. Very nice.

I don't really care, just thought it was amusing that the GM generated less discussing :D

I'm old.

1. London Calling (least favorite song is "London Calling")

2. My aim is true -Elvis Costello

3. CCR's greatest hits (guilty pleasure. Great band, Great songwriting)

4. Who's next or Quadraphenia

5. Talking Heads - Remain in Light.

Posted

Ooh, My Aim is true... First Elvis Costello drop.

To be honest, Imperial Bedroom might be a better overall EC record (Town Cryer might just be the greatest single song ever) but a respectable choice nonetheless.

My desert island picks:

1) The Who - Who's Next

2) Waylon Jennings - Honky Tonk Heroes

3) Boston - Boston (first album)

4) Allman Brothers - Live at Fillmore East

5) George Harrison - All Things Must Pass

We get 10?

6) Johnny Cash - Live at San Quentin

7) Led Zep - Physical Graffiti

8) ELP - Trilogy

9) Beatles - The White Album

10) Lowest of the Low - Shakespeare My Butt

LOL I think I probably look more like venue management. Very short hair (or what's left of it anyway), probably wearing a polo shirt., dad shorts at Summer shows. My wife says I look like a retired cop, so probably not roadie.

I get the same thing!

I wish I had enough hair on my head now to grow some roadie locks, whether or not I would grow it that long is another question.

I also dress appropriately for the venue and my age group. It was my parents that me this way. And always clean underwear, because you never know when you're going to be in an accident.

If I needed an assortment of 5 to cover various moods...

1. Revolver - Beatles

2. Mothership Connection - Parliament

3. The Empire Strikes Back (1997 Special Edition) - John Williams & The London Symphony Orchestra

4. Sound of Silver - LCD Soundsystem

5. Wholeness and Separation - Halou

And if it were permissible to add compilations and live albums I could expand out to 10:

6. The Very Best of The Meters

7. The Name of This Band is Talking Heads  (wins out over Stop Making Sense because of sheer quantity and SMS goes on the movies list)

8. 87’ Laments (Live Paris-Bercy) - Prince

9. Living in Clip - Ani DiFranco

10. Keepin’ Dah Funk Alive 4-1995 - Bootsy Collins

As it turns out, I'd be a dancing Ebriate on my deserted island.

Highway 61 Revisited, Lola vs. Powerman and the Moneygoround Part One, and The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars all narrowly missed the cut.

Good call on "Kind of Blue". I considered it too, as well as "Take Five" as an option for those days on the desert island requiring jazz...

Some were asking for recommendations, I'm not sure whether to put this here or in the music thread. But, if you're a Doors fan, Spotify has a special from 1979(?) where Jim Ladd interviews all the band members about their time with the Doors, interviews with other musicians about their stories and some other real candid stuff. Jim Ladd used to do that kind of stuff back in the day and this one with The Doors was the only four parter because it's that in depth. (It's split into 16 parts on Spotify (between 8-15 minutes each)). It's a fantastic special and well worth the time.

Heard this one about a week ago and it's completely stuck in my head. Brand new band and a brand new song. This feels like it's straight out of 1988. If you like the more synth style Police songs, you'll dig this.

Thanks for sharing that! If I could buy stock in The Regrettes, I would do so. Love the name too.

But they need a chick drummer too. Just to complete the overall effect.

Why can't I see the vid D4rk posted on my laptop?

Huh.  Refresh the screen and there it is.

That bass player....

Oddly enough, they just announced this morning they'll be at the Tralf on June 24th.

Catchy. Also, weirdly, sounds like the band The Outfield from the 80's. (A guilty pleasure of mine)
