Eleven Posted May 16, 2017 Report Posted May 16, 2017 I think Boucher actually drew up a defensive play during the timeout. Quote

That Aud Smell Posted May 16, 2017 Report Posted May 16, 2017 Sens-Pens was sublime for a good stretch of the 2nd. Then ... blechk. So - what happened? Which team was more responsible for how mired the game became? Did the Pens shut down Ottawa? Or did Ottawa ... shut down? Quote
darksabre Posted May 16, 2017 Report Posted May 16, 2017 Sens-Pens was sublime for a good stretch of the 2nd. Then ... blechk. So - what happened? Which team was more responsible for how mired the game became? Did the Pens shut down Ottawa? Or did Ottawa ... shut down? Both. The Pens recognized the strategy that Ottawa was playing and chose not to play into it. Which means both teams were basically playing the prevent. Pens coach said in the post game that he was glad they showed they could win a 1-0 game against at team doing what the Sens do. Expect more of this going forward. The Sens sitting back and waiting for the Pens to make mistakes, and the Pens waiting that strategy out until they get a lucky bounce. Quote

darksabre Posted May 16, 2017 Report Posted May 16, 2017 Awesome. Oh man, I am rock hard right now. Just what you want from a series trying to showcase the most talented players in the game, right? Sidney Crosby perpetually circling back in the neutral zone. Hhnnnnnnngggggggg Quote

Thorner Posted May 16, 2017 Report Posted May 16, 2017 That's on Ottawa and Guy Boucher, though. And the league facilitating it. We know this isn't the Pens usual game. Quote

woods-racer Posted May 16, 2017 Report Posted May 16, 2017 (edited) I've watched enough of Ottawa now to know not to watch anymore. Edited May 16, 2017 by Woods-Racer Quote
Thorner Posted May 16, 2017 Report Posted May 16, 2017 (edited) It was against the Caps. Getting dominated for long stretches and relying on all-star play from your goalie to keep you in it by necessity isn't the same as playing the 1-3-1. Edited May 16, 2017 by Thorny Quote
MattPie Posted May 16, 2017 Report Posted May 16, 2017 Anyone notice something about that D system? It's the perfect counter to Byslma's system. The three forwards are covered man to man in the neutral zone and the single forechecker can pressure the D. The D have to make a long pass, which either connects to a forward with someone on his back *and* D support coming; the forward only has two guys that are covered to pass to. If the puck gets by, the back D can go fetch it before the forwards can get there. It doesn't even strike me as hard to defend that way. Quote

bunomatic Posted May 17, 2017 Report Posted May 17, 2017 Great game so far. Do the Preds have an inordinate amount of gingers ? Maybe it was just that particular shot of the bench and all the reddish beards ? Quote

Maybe it was just that particular shot of the bench and all the reddish beards ? I mentioned this 2 playoffs ago. All of the Blackhawks appeared to be ginger. Lots of Charlie beards. Quote
Thorner Posted May 17, 2017 Report Posted May 17, 2017 (edited) Surprised he was allowed to knock the net off like that... Poll - Who has the better top 4: Nashville or Buffalo? Ellis, Ekholm, Josi, Subban OR McCabe, Ristolainen, Gorges, Bogosian. Close call. Edited May 17, 2017 by Thorny Quote
