Same. I was all aboard the J-Bot train, but Botsie/Botsy flows off the tongue well.

It does. I can see why it's been the nickname elsewhere. Probably from when he was playing hockey.

The -sie/-zee is my favourite type of hockey naming method. My all-time favourite example of that? Grant Fuhrzee.

Oof, if this an indication of the off season... its gonna be a long one...

It's not cutsie, it's pure 100% Canadian nicknaming at it's best.

Correct.

Do we need a refresher on hockey naming conventions?

You've generally got 2 choices -- the -zee/-see/-ee treatment, or the -er treatment.

Botterill wouldn't qualify for the -er treatment, since he's already got an -er in his name (even if the "e" isn't pronounced).

But does the GM nickname follow the same rules? I understand that's what other players might call him when he's on the ice, but he's a front office stiff now.

Mr. Botts?

He is on WGR right now. All 3 hosts played with him, it's Botts to him and them.

Hmm. Interesting.

If his hockey name isn't Botsie, then I think I'm back to JBOT.

Good question. I think the answer is mostly "yes."
