Stoner Posted May 6, 2017 Report Posted May 6, 2017 Since the masseur is gone, what about the rest? The trainers, equipment managers, medical staff, security, in-house media and PR people, even the broadcast crew (except Rick, of course). Is it at all important to wipe clean the slate of people who have a big impact on how the players play, how the players feel about the franchise? I'm always intrigued by how teams, over decades sometimes, have certain places where they play well and certain places where they suck. Is it because they hear all the hangers-on talking about how "we never win in St. Louis"? I wouldn't mind Botterill and Coach Gordie putting their own people in all of these positions, even replacing the Mays and the Rays. A totally fresh start. And, yeah, for this I'm mostly thinking of someone like Rip and his ridiculous numbers. Perfect example. Quote
Norcal Posted May 6, 2017 Report Posted May 6, 2017 Rip should go for sure and if the new GM and coach determine that the trainers aren't treating the players correctly then they should go too. There's been rumblings abkut the training staff the last few years hasn't there? Quote
Sabres Fan in NS Posted May 6, 2017 Report Posted May 6, 2017 I have always thought Rip was told to give the numbers. I never thought he dreamed up this crazy system all by himself. How come the last 2nd overall picks didn't get a 'Rip Special'? Quote
Rasmus_ Posted May 6, 2017 Report Posted May 6, 2017 I would assume that the roster will have some turn over for sure once the General Manager is in power. Outside of Jack, ROR, Ristolainen, Okposo (unless someone really wants him) and a few guys on the strongly holding onto (Reinhart, McCabe) everyone is openly available at the right price. Quote

I'd include the lame people in charge of the in-game experience, Doug Allen, the embarrassingly lame national anthem singer, the lame promotion people, the lame organist and most of all lame Sabretooth. Hit the road! Quote

Huckleberry Posted May 6, 2017 Report Posted May 6, 2017 Been having my doubts about the medical staff for ages now. Quote
Stoner Posted May 6, 2017 Author Report Posted May 6, 2017 Down with Rip! Not really. Does this sound right to you, though? “I love the game or else I wouldn’t be here,” Simonick said Thursday as he prepared for Game No. 3,503. “We’ll be doing this when I get to 4,000.” These dashes brought to you by crummy SabreSpace post-merging. --- Broadening this out a little, are we not long overdue for a complete overhaul of the arena atmosphere? (Including the bald pointer.) Quote

(Including the bald pointer.) You suggesting that we limit the number of Muffy and Chets in the lower bowl? I could go for that... either that or make requirements for sitting in those seats... i.e., must wear Sabre Jersey... you can afford it, must stand and cheer after every goal, great save and pay attention to the game... knowning when something potentially could happen... groan appropriately when it doesn't... join in all cheers.... etc... Less than that and you lose your next tickets to an upper bowl fan. Quote

SwampD Posted May 6, 2017 Report Posted May 6, 2017 Who has deserved a real hockey number on this team that didn't get one? I'll contend that Rip is the best talent evaluator that any team has ever had. Quote

Doohicksie Posted May 6, 2017 Report Posted May 6, 2017 I think WildCard should go. He doesn't bring the GDTs like he used to. He just doesn't produce. ;) Quote

Stoner Posted May 6, 2017 Author Report Posted May 6, 2017 Hanger on implies sycophants. I disagree with the premise then of cleaning house. Good point. That wasn't my point. I like that word, but I used it too literally. I just think people overlook the impact all of the people around a team have on the players, whether those people have been around for 40 years or 40 months, or are toadies or not. Quote
French Collection Posted May 6, 2017 Report Posted May 6, 2017 Everyone will probably get evaluated by the new GM. Just because there hadn't been success on the ice doesn't mean we don't have some quality people behind the scenes. For example, our equipment guys could be the best skate sharpeners in the league. Uh oh. I just wrote in the GM thread that anyone can sharpen a skate. Are there all-star sharpeners? Quote
