Noticed the calories and high alcohol content in craft beer. And the high cost. I'm drinking rolling rock and feel like I'm in college again.

I think that industry is over-saturated and these corporate boys are getting smarter. Uh-Oh.

Calories most likely. The alcohol content though can be low or high depending on the style of beer and how it was made. I had a wheat beer last week that was 11% alcohol because honey. I had a wheat beer the other day that was the exact same style but was 4.3%.

I did the math recently, and buying certain craft brews are cheaper per alcohol unit than light beer. In some cases, the calories work out too. I just switch in a quart of water between beers to stay hydrated if I'm doing something outside.

I was kinda cheating, I can get Storm King for <$40 case at Victory, which stacks up well against any beer and everything else I'd want to drink. Hop Devil is the same price and doesn't quite edge out light beer, but I get to drink Hop Devil.

But on the bright side, you get all that sh!tty Mexican beer.

Haha, yeah there's no shortage of Mexican brews.

Just about every craft brewery down here specialize in IPAs which is pretty much all my friends drink... Hangar 24, Left Coast, etc..

I like the occasional IPA, but it's mandatory that the beer guy bring at min a 30 pack of CLs to the game which serves more as a refreshing post game beverage than just something to drink slowly and enjoy the flavor.

I miss Labatt dearly.

Beer snob I am not.

That's why you go with ice beer instead of the light (diet) stuff. Milwaukee's Best Ice is dirt cheap (about $15 for a 30 pack depending on location) and it's 6.9% ABV. Way more bang for the buck than any light beer and probably more bang for the buck than any of that specialty stuff.

Oh, absolutely. I didn't run the numbers on Beast or stuff like Mr. Boston vodka, but that case deal is fantastic. King of Storms is 9.1%, so Beast would be around 40% cheaper.

I mean if you want to go that route you can buy 1.5L Listerine for $4 which has 26.9% alcohol content. Just don't skimp and get Scope mouthwash, it only has 18.7%...

"For example, original formula Listerine is about 54 proof with 26.9% alcohol, and many of the mint flavored mouthwashes are almost 22% alcohol. The alcohol content of Scope weighs in at 18.9%, and Cepacol at 14%. When compared to beer (3% to 7% alcohol), wine (12%), and even some liquors and distilled spirits, these products are concentrated sources of ethanol. Experts claim it is possible if not probable that swishing with alcohol-containing mouthwash can trigger a positive Breathalyzer test result for seven to 20 minutes after use."

I had occasion to be in Rochester today and saw the glistening, almost-brand-spanking-new Golisano Children's Hospital. There's one in Florida, too. What a great legacy to have your name behind (and on) something so important. Golisano's record of philanthropy is quite remarkable.

Well-turned!

But, bear in mind: Making a major gift to underwrite a children's hospital in Buffalo (in/around the Allentown area) would not have been quite as natural a means of laying the groundwork for securing public stadium financing in the next 5-7 years. PSE needs to feather the sh1t out of its nest in/around Canalside and Cobblestone in order to make that happen, I think.

I could've sworn you used to be more subtle than this. Perhaps I'll come up with a fancystats way to measure your subtlety/60 and subtlety-for %.

I wasn't thinking remotely that cynically. More like, you have several billion dollars. What's important for the world?

Yeah, nothing says being charitable like putting your name on something so everyone knows how charitable you're being  ;)

I do think the Pegulas could do some more with charity stuff, and the Sabres foundation isn't enough, but I don't think they have to be mutually exclusive, either. Developing the downtown area helps create jobs and increase the general economy of the area, which can bouey a lot with it.

Also, we have a new children's hospital opening up in about 5 months already anyways :)
