Eleven Posted April 24, 2017 Report Posted April 24, 2017 I don't want to list nominees. But let's go. Is it Satan? Mogilny? Briere from that odd spot on the goal line? Drury because of 07? Andreychuk or Vanek in front of the net? John Tucker (had to throw a joke in)? Our late friend Rick Martin? Have at it. This should be some off-season fun. Maybe if we cull it down to four or five, I'll make a real poll. Quote
I-90 W Posted April 24, 2017 Report Posted April 24, 2017 I always loved Vanek's net presence; he was the king of garbage goals. Quote
Weave Posted April 24, 2017 Report Posted April 24, 2017 Toss up for me between Mogilny and Andrechuck. Both great finishers in different ways. Quote
Huckleberry Posted April 24, 2017 Report Posted April 24, 2017 I'd say Mogilny, Andreychuck, Satan In this order. Quote
Thorner Posted April 24, 2017 Report Posted April 24, 2017 Connolly may have had the prettiest finishes. Quote
2 minuter för grovbearbetn Posted April 24, 2017 Report Posted April 24, 2017 Danny Gare had a great wrist shot, and he was a 50 goal scorer twice. He also had a 46 goal year. 35 game winning goals in his Buffalo career. He was my favorite player growing up. Quote

And would stand toe-to-toe with Clark Gilles and pound away giving up about 5 inches in height. As fearless of a competitor as the Sabres have ever had. Quote

As fearless of a competitor as the Sabres have ever had. One more thing in Gare's favor: he frequently played on the 2nd line. He didn't have Gil feeding him. IIRC, he played on the checking line with Luce and Ramsey as line mates. Edited April 25, 2017 by 2_minutes_4_roughing Quote
French Collection Posted April 25, 2017 Report Posted April 25, 2017 Rick Martin is my pick, shows my age. Quote

IIRC, he played on the checking line with Luce and Ramsey as line mates. You're right. And Luce was JAG before he got with Ramsay and Gare. Those two made Luce look great offensively (defensively and on the PK, Luce was the MAN). Quote
dudacek Posted April 25, 2017 Report Posted April 25, 2017 (edited) It's gotta be Rico. His worst season was 28 goals in 65 games. Scored at least 30 his other eight years. He AVERAGED 46 goals over 80 games in his first NINE years. He finished 6th, 16th, 2nd, 3rd, 7th, 10th (in 66 games), 37th (in 65 games), 26th, and 12th in goals scored over that stint. Nobody can touched that sustained sniping. Edited April 25, 2017 by dudacek Quote

Maybe if we cull it down to four or five, I'll make a real poll. Hard to vote against Mogilny...he scored 77 goals for us and could have had another 20 if he figured out a better move on breakaways than to always try and go five hole... Quote
Taro T Posted April 25, 2017 Report Posted April 25, 2017 One more thing in Gare's favor: he frequently played on the 2nd line. He didn't have Gil feeding him. IIRC, he played on the checking line with Luce and Ramsey as line mates. That line was the checking line. For me, it would go Gare, Andreyslug, & Rico. Though Dave Hannon finished off that 70 shot shutout game, so that should get consideration. ;) Quote
nfreeman Posted April 25, 2017 Report Posted April 25, 2017 Rico was my favorite player as a kid, and I'm pleased to say that when my wife and I finally caved in to the kids and got a dog, everyone agreed on "Rico" as his name. And yes -- he was the best goal scorer they've ever had. Quote
Wyldnwoody44 Posted April 25, 2017 Report Posted April 25, 2017 Hasek.... He would "finish" his opponent chances of winning.... Quote
drnkirishone Posted April 25, 2017 Report Posted April 25, 2017 Satan always stood out to me. that may be because he was on teams that had such a lack of offensive skill that it made him look so much better. I wish we would have had more skill in the lineups with him to know. Quote
Neo Posted April 25, 2017 Report Posted April 25, 2017 Rick Martin ... ... Gare, Satan ... Perhaps Briere, Dumont, Andreychuk. I'd be curious on the thoughts of others regarding Dumont. Being old gives you memories. Being too old obscures them. Interesting thoughts on Mogilny - among the greatest Sabres of all time, but not a sniper. If he were a sniper, he'd have scored 126 goals in his best season. His feet created goals. No criticism. Quote
flomoe Posted April 25, 2017 Report Posted April 25, 2017 Toss up between Martin and Mogilny but have to give serious consideration to Gare, Andreychuck and Vaive(though he wasn't around nearly as long as some others). Quote
Radar Posted April 25, 2017 Report Posted April 25, 2017 (edited) Mogilny then Rick Martin in my book. Gare would probably be third. Edited April 25, 2017 by Radar Quote
