I-90 W Posted April 23, 2017 Report Posted April 23, 2017 I watch NHL Network practicly all day everyday but I missed this. I'm assuming the list was players 20 and under or something to that affect? They must not understand the point per game stat. Oh well, next season they'll have no choice but to give him credit. Quote
sodbuster Posted April 23, 2017 Report Posted April 23, 2017 #8 what?Definitely not hair or skin. Quote
bunomatic Posted April 23, 2017 Report Posted April 23, 2017 Definitely not hair or skin. I can only wish I rocked a white guy afro. Too late for me but Jack can still pull it off. JUST DO IT Quote

North Buffalo Posted April 23, 2017 Report Posted April 23, 2017 I saw something about this and think it was overall player ranking, Matthews was 7th, McJesus was 3rd... Crosby 1, forget who in between but not Laine... only established players... just cant find link right now. Quote
Randall Flagg Posted April 23, 2017 Report Posted April 23, 2017 If they had Jack as the 8th best player, or even forward, there's not much to complain about. That's a little high on my list in both cases. Quote
I-90 W Posted April 23, 2017 Report Posted April 23, 2017 (edited) https://www.sportingcharts.com/nhl/stats/player-points-per-game-leaders/2016/ Jack was #12 for 2016-2017 ppg stat. 3/12 were under 21 I beleive. Edited April 23, 2017 by Saratoga Sabres Fan Quote
3putt Posted April 23, 2017 Report Posted April 23, 2017 NHLN is nothing but a shill for Canadian hockey. It goes to great lengths to promote TO interests and all things Canada. Quote

It goes to great lengths to promote TO interests and all things Canada.I agree but as far as daily league wide highlights are concerned, NHL Tonight and On the Fly can't be beat. It also has some really cool countdown series as well. Also awesome on draft day (tsn coverage feed) and trade deadline every year. Not to mention all the IIHF coverage every year. Biased yes but darn good channel for puck heads. Edited April 23, 2017 by Saratoga Sabres Fan Quote
3putt Posted April 23, 2017 Report Posted April 23, 2017 But I take the "rankings" with a grain of salt. Imagine how many clicks they would drive to tsn or sports net if they ranked Jack above their beloved leafs? Quote
Claude Balls Posted April 23, 2017 Author Report Posted April 23, 2017 Trying to find a link, but don't see anything. I'm not sure whether it was by age or PPG or something else. But from what I remember, they rated Jack as 8th best player overall in the NHL. Quote
3putt Posted April 23, 2017 Report Posted April 23, 2017 McDavid, Crosby, Karlson, Burns, Kane, Lundquist....hard to imagine it isn't age biased. Thus, McDavid, Matthews, Nylander, Marner, Laine, Werenski Jack as the best under 20 or some such thing. Either way, it is a meaningless exercise. Time will tell us who are the best. Quote

But from what I remember, they rated Jack as 8th best player overall in the NHL. 8th best player in the league is way too generous imo. And he's my favorite current NHL player. #8 best forward maybe, still a bit generous. Another year or so though yeah absolutely. Quote
pi2000 Posted April 23, 2017 Report Posted April 23, 2017 8th best young player IIRC. Not sure what they define as young? 21 and under? Quote
I-90 W Posted April 23, 2017 Report Posted April 23, 2017 (edited) 8th best young player IIRC. Not sure what they define as young? 21 and under? If they ranked him #8 U21 then OP has a legitimate gripe. Based on ppg Jack is easily top 5 forward under 21. Edited April 23, 2017 by Saratoga Sabres Fan Quote
Huckleberry Posted April 24, 2017 Report Posted April 24, 2017 them, Jack will explode to a 90 point season next year. Quote

Randall Flagg Posted April 24, 2017 Report Posted April 24, 2017 But someone said Crosby was #1. So it can't be a young kids thing. Jack is the 2nd best U21 talent, third at worst (but that's wrong.) Quote

The OP said McClavicle was 1 and Matthews 2 in the show he watched. The Crosby thing was somebody speculating about/watching a different ranking show. NHL Network only has about 30,000 of them, and because there are so many they necessarily contradict themselves quite often. Quote
LGR4GM Posted April 24, 2017 Report Posted April 24, 2017 Figure Larkin is probably one of the others rated above him which is really funny after Larkin's serious sophomore slump.Yea, the league definitely has a thing for him even though he's probably below Reinhart, let alone Jack. Quote
WildCard Posted April 24, 2017 Report Posted April 24, 2017 NBCSN ranked Jack 6/10 in the Next Gen rankings. Ekblad, Johnny Hockey, Laine, Matthews, McDavid, and one more were ahead of him Quote
