qwksndmonster Posted May 3, 2017 Report Posted May 3, 2017 Interesting post from somebody that already declared the tank a failure. So which is it?
WildCard Posted May 3, 2017 Author Report Posted May 3, 2017 @FriedgeHNIC Word is BUF had some kind of second interview with Jason Botterill (PIT) for GM position. But I'm not sure where process stands.
DaGimp Posted May 3, 2017 Report Posted May 3, 2017 UH OH! Check out what Botterill thinks of Danny boy in this article: http://thehockeywriters.com/jason-botterill-pittsburgh-penguins-blueprint/ “You look at what [Penguins coach] Dan Bylsma demands, all you have to do is find a way to knock that guy off the puck just a little bit to get that separation so you get the puck. From a fan’s perspective, I love our [style].”
TrueBlueGED Posted May 3, 2017 Report Posted May 3, 2017 Are we really expecting an assistant GM to throw the head coach under the bus? And that was how many years ago?
WildCard Posted May 3, 2017 Author Report Posted May 3, 2017 Are we really expecting an assistant GM to throw the head coach under the bus? And that was how many years ago? I'm joking, FWIW. If he hired Sullivan, he's either learned or that's typical PR garbage
Doohicksie Posted May 3, 2017 Report Posted May 3, 2017 It's a great day to be alive. It's rare that you have such an upbeat vibe, n. I could get used to that. I hope the Sabres support a rosy outlook going forward.
nfreeman Posted May 3, 2017 Report Posted May 3, 2017 Interesting post from somebody that already declared the tank a failure. So which is it? Well, I think it's possible to think both things -- i.e. that the tank was a mistake AND that there is reason to be optimistic for the team's prospects next year and in the long term.

While I admit to frequent pessimism about my hometown teams, I also think (i) the facts have generally borne out this view and (ii) long-term, both teams are in about as good a position as could reasonably be hoped for -- i.e. secured in Buffalo with a committed, deep-pocketed owner. More broadly, and more importantly, I think pretty much every day is a great day to be alive.

shrader Posted May 3, 2017 Report Posted May 3, 2017 Congratulations, you qualified for my ignore feature. We get it, you recently learned how to use the ignore feature. I have a friend who works for a casino whose told me Murray has been ejected from the casino for being too drunk before so I'm assuming he's just became a typical victim of Buffalo Sports. He sounds like a canadian to me.

Red alert! Red alert! We have a moving goalposts alert! This is not a drill! You declared the tank a failure. That's quite a bit stronger than calling it a mistake. Failure implies we're Edmonton, hopelessly toiling away at the bottom of the standings for years on end without hope until falling back asswards into a no-BS generational talent. One cannot hold this view and also be optimistic about the collected talent.

He sounds like a canadian to me. :w00t: **************************** who hacked nfreeman's account? We need a mod ASAP to look in to this! :P I like the outlook from nfreeman. I think it is more representative of the boards overall position. Maybe not the tank kinda, maybe, a little bit, may still, is, was a failure part. The positive outlook is what I see also.
Doohicksie Posted May 3, 2017 Report Posted May 3, 2017 He sounds like a canadian to me. No wonder he didn't see ROR's Tim Horton incident as a major event.
Randall Flagg Posted May 3, 2017 Report Posted May 3, 2017 Sorta. It's the "called overrated for so long they're becoming underrated" syndrome. They're both capable, boring, have had a ton of success and have dominated the Sabres. Because of the pushback surrounding them, the quality of their resumes gets lost. We're not in the "underrated" part for Toews yet - the dude was just declared a top 100 player of all time over Geno Malkin
dudacek Posted May 3, 2017 Report Posted May 3, 2017 We're not in the "underrated" part for Toews yet - the dude was just declared a top 100 player of all time over Geno Malkin By the professional hockey world, sure. By the internet fanboys? He'd be lucky to crack the top 100 of right now.

One cannot hold this view and also be optimistic about the collected talent. Well, I think my position is and has been that the tank would result in the Sabres being materially worse off than they would've been sans tank. That's not the same thing as saying we are certain to end up like Edmonton -- although I think the Edmonton scenario is more likely than the Pittsburgh scenario.

And then again, like, earlier this week. You let your own virtuosic, nonsensical pessimism fly without a second thought, but when PA does it Things Aren't So Bad You Guys!
Stoner Posted May 3, 2017 Report Posted May 3, 2017 I'm going to miss GMTM I appreciate this. The rats jumped off Murray's ship so fast, it was pretty disgraceful. Not Sabr-ed out. I never will be, probably.

Radar Posted May 3, 2017 Report Posted May 3, 2017 As surprised as I was that Murray was fired it was more that I thought he would get more time not that he didn't deserve to be fired. His moves seemed to be, with the exception of the ROR deal, very questionable to me. While as a fan I could see where his personality could be amusing and to some attractive I can also see where it could be a problem professionally. Later reports of poor communication and organization came as no real surprise given his personality. In the end I don't like the turmoil surrounding our teams and I hope ownership is learning by it and are moving forward to remedy it. I can't say the recent moves were not called for though.
Brawndo Posted May 3, 2017 Report Posted May 3, 2017 I'm intrigued by Botteril, Dubas would have been my first choice, but I would like to see what he does. How is he going to set up the hockey department? Will he keep Mark Jabukowski in charge of the cap. Who does he bring in as the AGM to run the Amerks. Kyle Raftis with his analytics background would be a great choice. Most importantly who is his Coach? Housley or does he search the AHL for someone like Sheldon Keefe?
