Randall Flagg
I don't believe I ever received a participation trophy. If I did, I probably threw it out, just like I did with actual trophies. I don't really like material possessions

SwampD
You too, Chz? The participation trophy thing has always been ######. Just an expression of crusty old people digging in their heels and resisting progress. Much in the same way that social security is a right, while healthcare is an "entitlement." Says the most millenial of millenials.

ubkev
Am I the only person under 35 who never got a "participation trophy"? Just win and you don't have to worry about it. :p Edited April 13, 2017 by ubkev

Just win and you don't have to worry about it. :p I never got anything of the sort. I honestly don't even know where the angst over the concept comes from. I'm not sure it's even a thing. Where are all the parents whose kids got participation trophies? Are your kids ruined?

Coach was all, hey bud, I got your trophy. My kid was all "for what?" I'm pretty sure he got rid of it. It definitely isn't on display anyplace. His exact words to me on the way home were "what did we get a trophy for? we didn't win anything." Kids know.

I'm glad your kid was unharmed by the participation trophy and will hopefully grow up to be an adult someday.

If so, you should probably make him bathe in bleach to get rid of the life destroying virus the trophy spreads to all who come into contact with it. I'm 1/2 of the people raising him, after all.

They were nice little tokens to remember the seasons by. The weren't the source of pride or anything. The only trophy I took pride in was 3rd place at a local chess tournament. I was 9 playing against 15 year olds.
Samson's Flow
Was I the only kid/millennial who felt extreme shame when given one of those? Everyone I knew who got a participation trophy/ribbon would hide/throw it away because it was concrete evidence you DIDN'T win. Like this awful, pitying reminder that you sucked/failed. No one ever congratulated you for getting the equivalent of this: Never gave anyone I knew this inflated sense of self worth. Always felt like a strawman for a generational "darn kids these days". Sorry, 2 cents derailment there, continue on haha Get that MS Paint crap out of here. You're a professional artist :nana: (Kidding obviously) I got trophies at the end of my soccer seasons when I was 5-8. They were nice little tokens to remember the seasons by. I remember everyone got a little bullshite 4" glove trophy, but the winners got the real two story official looking ones. Those are the only ones I ever put on the shelf. He's been doing so since he was 7. I don't know how much of an accomplishment that is because I'm severely handicapped when it comes to strategery.
