TrueBlueGED Posted April 13, 2017 Report Posted April 13, 2017 Is it contradictory to say I really like the Preds, but also have no confidence in them at all? I think they've been less than the sum of their parts all year, and if they put it all together, they're the most dangerous team in the West. But betting on that happening all of the sudden, and Rinne not being awful, is quite the risky proposition. Quote

But betting on that happening all of the sudden, and Rinne not being awful, is quite the risky proposition. Not at all. This is exactly what I think of them too. They could look like the best team in the world and I'd still see those yellow jerseys and be like "nah, they gonna lose". In fact, that's exactly how I picked my bracket. Quote
JJFIVEOH Posted April 13, 2017 Report Posted April 13, 2017 I'm surprised only one person picked the Mighty Ducks. Quote

Looks like I'm the only one  Quote
WildCard Posted April 13, 2017 Report Posted April 13, 2017 That is an interesting bracket with the fancy stats, eh True? Boston > SJ to win it all? Quote
TrueBlueGED Posted April 13, 2017 Report Posted April 13, 2017 That is an interesting bracket with the fancy stats, eh True? Boston > SJ to win it all? I have way more confidence in SJ than Boston. When I saw Boston at the top of the stats I was sad  Quote
pi2000 Posted April 13, 2017 Report Posted April 13, 2017 SA-CF% is in baby! For the games in each series, I just went 6 in every series. I really don't believe Boston is good enough to emerge, especially with the Krug injury, but it is what it is. I used CF% to build my bracket but looking only at the last 35 games of the season Also used scoring chances for % (over the same time period) as a function to break "ties" where both teams had somewhat similar CF%'s and to predict # of games. Quote
Sabel79 Posted April 17, 2017 Report Posted April 17, 2017 Welp. My bracket looks more or less boned three games into the first round. Again. It's almost as if I have no idea what I'm doing when I try to pick these things. Quote
Huckleberry Posted April 17, 2017 Report Posted April 17, 2017 Oilers, blues and penguins are screwing my bracket over. Quote
Cereal Posted April 20, 2017 Report Posted April 20, 2017 We have three leaders after the Ducks completed their sweep of the Flames: 38, Derrico, and "Eric H" were the only ones to predict the Ducks' victory as a sweep. 26 of the other 30 entrants also correctly picked Anaheim. Of note, TrueBlue's SA-CF% had Calgary winning.... womp womp. Quote
Cereal Posted April 21, 2017 Report Posted April 21, 2017 Bump again. ANA, PIT, and NSH all have moved on from Round One. CGY, CBJ, and CHI*** have all been eliminated. Six Sabre(s)Spacers had Chicago as their Champ. Only two SS'ers have chosen the first three victors correctly: TrueBlue and "Lukas K". "Lukas K" holds the lead after the bonus for picking PIT's victory in exactly 5 games. *** Apparently it was not a good round for teams hailing from cities beginning with the letter "C". Not looking great for Carolina and Colorado, either. Quote
Eleven Posted April 21, 2017 Report Posted April 21, 2017 The entire left halves of a lot of our brackets are completely screwed up right now. Add in a Washington loss, and this contest might be over next week. Quote
North Buffalo Posted April 21, 2017 Author Report Posted April 21, 2017 The entire left halves of a lot of our brackets are completely screwed up right now. Add in a Washington loss, and this contest might be over next week. Was thinking the same thing nuckin futs... Quote
I-90 W Posted April 21, 2017 Report Posted April 21, 2017 Not sure how to do the bracket but my prediction for the SC final is San Jose/ NYR. With San Jose winning in 6 games. Quote
Eleven Posted April 23, 2017 Report Posted April 23, 2017 Safe to say, there will be a new winner this year! Quote
Huckleberry Posted April 23, 2017 Report Posted April 23, 2017 I really need the bruins to come through for me on my brackett and beat the sens. Only got nashville, rangers, ducks right :p Quote
pi2000 Posted April 23, 2017 Report Posted April 23, 2017 Well look at that, SA-CF% doesn't mean . Quote
Eleven Posted April 23, 2017 Report Posted April 23, 2017 Well look at that, SA-CF% doesn't mean ######. If the Caps lose, that entry has a better chance than most. Quote
TrueBlueGED Posted April 23, 2017 Report Posted April 23, 2017 Well look at that, SA-CF% doesn't mean ######. Meh. Use one playoff year to draw conclusions if you like. But you'd be wrong to do so. It may well be diminishing in predictive power as the league evolves and more teams adapt, but we're still several years away from really knowing. I mean, a single statistic beat everyone save for Eleven last year. Quote

WildCard Posted April 23, 2017 Report Posted April 23, 2017 Well, my bracket has been absolutely destroyed. Bruins, Canadiens, and Hawks losing has me toast Quote
Taro T Posted April 23, 2017 Report Posted April 23, 2017 Well, my bracket has been absolutely destroyed. Bruins, Canadiens, and Hawks losing has me toast Likewise. Only felt confident about 3 1st round series: Ducks, Blues, & Caps. Missed on just about all the others. Quote
sodbuster Posted April 24, 2017 Report Posted April 24, 2017 I just checked on my bracket, and I was shocked by how many possible points I have remaining. Not too shabby. Quote
