Brawndo Posted April 7, 2017 Report Posted April 7, 2017 (edited) John Connolly of @bostonherald reporting that the next Frozen Four sites will be Detroit (19), Buffalo (20), Boston (21), Pittsburgh (22) Edited April 18, 2017 by BRAWNDO Quote
cpabob Posted April 7, 2017 Report Posted April 7, 2017 that is fantastic news. The first one was tremendous. Quote
darksabre Posted April 7, 2017 Report Posted April 7, 2017 OH HELL YEAH! Just FYI, I will definitely arrange a scrimmage for that tournament somewhere in town, probably on the Friday when there are no games. USCHO forums usually does a posters game of some kind. Quote
Claude Balls Posted April 7, 2017 Report Posted April 7, 2017 At least Buffalo is finally ahead of Boston and Pittsburgh at something. Quote
Taro T Posted April 7, 2017 Report Posted April 7, 2017 So are they going to distribute tix like last time Buffalo had the Frozen 4? Pretty much everything went through NCAA which meant if you hadn't had tix to the last 10 Frozen 4's, you were going through scalpers if you wanted to attend. Quote
Two or less Posted April 7, 2017 Report Posted April 7, 2017 Last time Buffalo hosted, i was driving to college, listening to WNSA, i think Jim Brinson show, and you couldve heard the bands in the background and he was saying what a great event this was and tickets were still available. I texted, while driving, a buddy of mine, who was also going to the same college, if we should skip and go. Surely enough, we met at a parking lot at school, he hopped into my car and we went to see Michigan vs. Minnesota. Was an awesome time and glad i did. I can't wait for this event and attend it, under much better circumstances. Quote
That Aud Smell Posted April 8, 2017 Report Posted April 8, 2017 Will this be our second? Third? Vanek was here for the one I attended. Quote
TrueBlueGED Posted April 8, 2017 Report Posted April 8, 2017 Will this be our second? Third? Vanek was here for the one I attended. Not only was Vanek there, he was goddamn incredible. Really helped cement him as a top-5 pick. Quote
PromoTheRobot Posted April 9, 2017 Report Posted April 9, 2017 I was at '03 and my vivid memory was out of town fans surveying the desolation around HSBC Arena looking for someplace to eat or drink after the game. It's already a million times better now and bound to be even better by 2020. Quote
Cereal Posted April 18, 2017 Report Posted April 18, 2017 Bump - The NCAA is supposed to announce 2019-2022 Frozen Four hosts at 1pm today: https://twitter.com/NCAAIceHockey/status/854325317611261953 Quote
Brawndo Posted April 18, 2017 Author Report Posted April 18, 2017 Per GR they have been awarded the 2019 Frozen Four Quote
Eleven Posted April 18, 2017 Report Posted April 18, 2017 Per GR they have been awarded the 2019 Frozen Four Canisius and Niagara co-hosting, it looks like. And Canisius hosting NCAA basketball again in 2022. Quote
Eleven Posted April 18, 2017 Report Posted April 18, 2017 Because Buffalo? Gotta admit, it's a destination when it comes to hockey. Quote
Taro T Posted April 18, 2017 Report Posted April 18, 2017 Canisius and Niagara co-hosting, it looks like. And Canisius hosting NCAA basketball again in 2022. Any thoughts on if the additional hotels & infrastructure that have been going up will eventually get Buffalo a Sweet 16/ Round of 8 or is it doomed to 1st 2 rounds in perpetuity? Quote

Not sure that infrastructure is the issue, really. Omaha is hosting a Sweet 16 / Round of 8 next year. I can't imagine that greater Omaha (if that's a thing) has significantly more beds than Buffalo / Niagara. It may be the relative lack of interest in college sports around here that limits us to the first weekend. Locals didn't exactly pack the place this year. I, for one, don't care; I think the first weekend is the most exciting part of the tournament. I tend not to watch the later rounds. Quote
Brawndo Posted April 18, 2017 Author Report Posted April 18, 2017 It's finically advantageous to host the first two rounds, more games played, more teams here increasing the number of out of town visitors. Quote

There are more games played, but schools like Wisconsin and Notre Dame didn't travel here nearly as well as I thought they would. But still a very good point on the number of games. Quote
sabills Posted April 18, 2017 Report Posted April 18, 2017 I wish March Madness wasn't in March when we hosted it. Worst Buffalo weather month, and Canalside is stuck in between the ice rinks and the canals, so its kinda boring down there. If they came in February or May its so much nicer. Quote

How do you figure? The 1st time they were in Buffalo, (haven't been back for the other 2) they hosted 4 1st round games & 2 2nd round games. Did they host more this last time? If not, they're hosting the exact same # of games but w/ less media spotlight. (CBS & the rest have to send their crews out to more venues early in the tourney.) Quote

A city hosting the second weekend has 3 games, not 6. Two games in the round of 16 and one game in the round of 8. Quote
