BuffaloBorn Posted February 13, 2017 Report Posted February 13, 2017 (edited) I'm trying to think back about the Sabres, particularly between 05-07. The fans were OBSESSED with the Sabres and they would ALWAYS cheer them win or lose. fail or success. 15 shot minus differential, and 15 shot plus differential. But what I hear from a crowd during a game at KBC,and i may just be hallucinating on mushrooms so forgive me if i'm wrong, is BOOS- if there is a mistake/bad play/bad powerplay/ failed clearing attempt ect... In 05-07 fans would NEVER boo the Sabres if my perception of the time serves well. BOOING your OWN hometown team is the ultimate form of disrespect to me! Think about it, these guys sacrifice every part of their body 41 times at KBC. Most don't just show up for a paycheck, they are also very much aware of the interdynamic between the fan and the player, and they want to go balls to the wall because they are LOYAL TO THE TEAM and the CITY. and for the FANS, BUT- perhaps even from a "psychological" point of view, HOW can a player be loyal to a TEAM when the FANS aren't even loyal to the players AND BOO them!!? I get it- it's FN frustrating not seeing things like the PK -whatever- flourish. I get it. It's FN frustrating when they can't get it out of the damn zone. They are also a young team, and learning, they need all the confidence from the support from the fans,They're essentially sacrificing their lives, developing and learning as kids, while doing the best they can. Yet the fans basically say your S*it in the event of an inevitable mistake ? I don't know how many fans do this, but c'mon. give the kids some confidence. Cheer them for their efforts. BOOING only alienates the players from the city, team and fans. No one should blame Eichel for addressing the booing (i think he did..?). He is absolutely right in that case. critical assessment, restless crowd, and suspension of applause is normal BOOING is 6 FINGER hand slap in the face. The BOOING has gotta stop. It is utterly unacceptable. Edited February 13, 2017 by BuffaloBorn Quote
WildCard Posted February 13, 2017 Report Posted February 13, 2017 Play well and show up to make your millions of dollars and maybe I won't boo. them, if I wanna boo them I will Quote
Taro T Posted February 13, 2017 Report Posted February 13, 2017 Wasn't at the game, but almost positive they were booed on 11/2/05 when they were shellacked by the Otters 10-4. Quote
WildCard Posted February 13, 2017 Report Posted February 13, 2017 Was there booing last night? I heard some Quote
darksabre Posted February 13, 2017 Report Posted February 13, 2017 Lol at this thread. What is it, 2011? Are we back at the fans needing to coddle this team? Yeah, no. Don't wanna get booed? Stop sucking. It's that easy. Quote
Taro T Posted February 13, 2017 Report Posted February 13, 2017 Was there booing last night? There definitely was for the reffing. Probably a couple of pockets during the PP at the end as well, but it definitely wasn't building-wide. Quote
pi2000 Posted February 13, 2017 Report Posted February 13, 2017 If they're skating hard and working their off they won't get booed win or lose. Mailing it in when you're 5 points out of playoff spot deserves some booing. Quote
SwampD Posted February 13, 2017 Report Posted February 13, 2017 There definitely was for the reffing. Probably a couple of pockets during the PP at the end as well, but it definitely wasn't building-wide. That's what I thought. I didn't hear any booing of the players last night on TV. They absolutely deserved to get booed the other night. I always hate these blaming the fans threads. Remember when it was our fault the Sabres sucked because we were still buy tickets? Just get better, try hard, and win. We'll cheer. We promise. Quote
MattPie Posted February 13, 2017 Report Posted February 13, 2017 I seem to remember a relatively recent Lindy Ruff-coached team that got mercilessly booed to the end the second and then came out with their hair on fire to start the third. I think they even won the game. I don't think this is the game I'm thinking of, but Sabres booed at home in the 2007 playoffs. https://www.thestar.com/sports/2007/04/27/sabres_3_rangers_2.html Quote

nucci Posted February 13, 2017 Report Posted February 13, 2017 This city hasn't seen a football or hockey playoff game in many years....we can boo and be pissed if we choose Quote
sabills Posted February 13, 2017 Report Posted February 13, 2017 This city hasn't seen a football or hockey playoff game in many years....we can boo and be pissed if we choose Yeah, this is my take when people give me about not being "loyal" to the Bills. "Leaving early? You're not a REAL FAN" "Come on, why not BILLEIVE in them this year?". Yeah, I'll buy in when they stop sucking, until them I owe them nothing. Quote
North Buffalo Posted February 13, 2017 Report Posted February 13, 2017 Nuff said, dont suck... show effort and you wont get booed. Till then.... boooooooooooooooooooooooooo........ Quote
Swedesessed Posted February 13, 2017 Report Posted February 13, 2017 I also view booing the Sabres as a compliment to the team: Booing sometimes means fans think you can be so much better and as a team you are underachieving. Quote
Drunkard Posted February 13, 2017 Report Posted February 13, 2017 They paid for their tickets so they can boo all they want. Quote
LTS Posted February 13, 2017 Report Posted February 13, 2017 When a hockey player turns down more money to stay with a team then I'll THINK about chiding people for not showing some loyalty. You know why the argument "don't boo the players" falls flat? They got booed off the ice and then showed up in the 3rd period. They weren't happy about getting booed by the fans. They can complain about it but something turned their butts around between periods and I doubt it was a fiery Bylsma speech. I don't like getting chewed out by my boss, but if I earned it I know I did, even if I don't want to admit it. Quote
Wyldnwoody44 Posted February 13, 2017 Report Posted February 13, 2017 Rebuild or not... Play better... It's an entertainment sport.... If you're going to suck, then be entertaining at the very least. Boo the crap out of them until they learn to suck less... Easy peasy..... Millionaires, we're talking about millionaires, who play a game for a living for about 10 years of their life.... Man up and don't whine about booing Quote

Jacque Richard Posted February 13, 2017 Report Posted February 13, 2017 Only If they had the Heart of the peca led team Quote
Sabre Dance Posted February 13, 2017 Report Posted February 13, 2017 I guess y'all who buy tickets can do whatever you want: boo, cheer, blow raspberries, whatever... Watch a game from one of the Canadian cities some time (like Winnepeg). They go nuts for 60 minutes, even if one of their players puts the puck in his own net. Fan is short for "fanatic" - if you decide you want to boo the team because they aren't playing well, go ahead, but please don't use the "F" word. (By the way, there were an awful lot of Sabre "fans" wearing Canucks jerseys in the lower bowl last night. Man, that must've been a helluva drive from the West Coast). ;) Quote
Jacque Richard Posted February 13, 2017 Report Posted February 13, 2017 The lower bowl has always been like that with visiting teams jerseys Quote
Mustache of God Posted February 13, 2017 Report Posted February 13, 2017 I think we found Russ Brandon's account. The fans wouldn't be booing if they had an entertaining team to watch this decade. We've been force-fed a sandwhich product so long it's starting to come back out the mouth. Quote
Jacque Richard Posted February 13, 2017 Report Posted February 13, 2017 Be patient fans of Buffalo sports teams. We're getting close Quote
