inkman Posted February 12, 2017 Report Posted February 12, 2017 (edited) From TSN http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/game/vancouver-canucks-buffalo-sabres-20170212 - VAN 24-25-6 (6th PACIFIC) - BUF 23-22-10 (7th ATLANTIC) KeyBank Center, Buffalo, New York PREVIEWNEWSSTATISTICSLOG BUFFALO, N.Y. -- With Jack Eichel and Evander Kane leading the way, the Buffalo Sabres are finding their offense, but they still have a lot of work to do in order to make a late-season push for the playoffs. Coming off a 3-1 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday night, the Sabres will look to keep the momentum going Sunday when they return home to take on the Vancouver Canucks (24-25-6). Buffalo (23-22-10) has won three of its last five games and its offense has been impressive in each of those victories. The first was a 4-0 win over the Ottawa Senators on Feb. 4. The second, a 5-4 overtime win over the San Jose Sharks that featured a dramatic three-goal comeback midway through the third period before Kane's overtime winner. And on Saturday, Kane had two goals and Eichel contributed three assists to lead the Sabres to a road victory over their border rivals. Kane is heating up at the right time with four goals in his last three games. Eichel has eight points (one goal, seven assists) in his last five games. "Kane brings a lot of speed, gets on the forecheck, causes a lot of havoc, gives us a lot of room and goes to the net," Eichel said after the win over the Maple Leafs. "We're just trying to use each other, get pucks on net and we were rewarded. ... We needed this one and we got it." For all of the Sabres' positives in recent weeks, they still have plenty of ground to make up when it comes to the playoff race. Heading into Sunday, the Sabres were five points out of the final wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference but two points out of last place in the conference. The Canucks, meanwhile, are in a similar position to the Sabres at this point in the season. They sit six points out of the final wild-card spot in the Western Conference and aren't doing themselves any favors with their recent stretch of play. After a good start to the new year, the Canucks have fallen on hard times as of late and have lost five of their last six games, including a 4-3 loss to Boston on Saturday. The only win in that stretch was a 3-0 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday. "It's frustrating for sure," Henrik Sedin said after the loss to Boston. "We're in a battle for a playoff spot and to have a chance to get two (points) would have been big for us. ... (Sunday) is a big game for us. Every game now, we know this road trip is huge and we need to put up some points. The teams around us are winning right now and that's tough to watch." Sedin (11 goals, 23 assists) is second on the team points behind only Bo Horvat (16 goals, 20 assists). Goalie Ryan Miller will return to Buffalo but might not start against his former team after playing Saturday Edited February 12, 2017 by inkman Quote
French Collection Posted February 12, 2017 Report Posted February 12, 2017 Jack and Kane are finding some chemistry. Sam is underrated. Bailey has great speed, hope he can click with ROR on some give and go plays. Foligno is back where he should be and strong on the forecheck. Ennis needs to show some top 9 play. Falk and Fedun have been good in their 5-6 slots. Nilsson's time to shine Let's go Buffalo. Quote
dudacek Posted February 12, 2017 Report Posted February 12, 2017 Living out here, losing to the Canucks is nearly as painful as losing to the Leafs or Bruins. Find your legs boys. Gut it out. Quote
Rasmus_ Posted February 12, 2017 Report Posted February 12, 2017 (edited) My two favorite teams face off. (As a kid watching Mogilny and Bure together was dynamite) I will definitely be watching this today! Excited! Edited February 12, 2017 by TheCerebral1 Quote
nfreeman Posted February 12, 2017 Report Posted February 12, 2017 Speaking of Ennis -- since Zemgus is still out, why not try him at center between Gio and Foligno? Quote
LTS Posted February 12, 2017 Report Posted February 12, 2017 Can't wait to watch another game. This time I might stay sober for it! Quote

Eleven Posted February 12, 2017 Report Posted February 12, 2017 Sadly I'm traveling again today and probably won't get to watch. Quote

inkman Posted February 12, 2017 Author Report Posted February 12, 2017 The 7:30 start time on a completely mundane sports day is stupid Quote
SwampD Posted February 12, 2017 Report Posted February 12, 2017 The players can't like it too much, but five games in seven days is pretty awesome. Quote
Eleven Posted February 12, 2017 Report Posted February 12, 2017 The 7:30 start time on a completely mundane sports day is stupid Yesterday and today could have been afternoon games and it would have been awesome. Quote
Robviously Posted February 12, 2017 Report Posted February 12, 2017 Yesterday and today could have been afternoon games and it would have been awesome. That would have been terrible. Afternoon games suck. Quote
pi2000 Posted February 12, 2017 Report Posted February 12, 2017 Game they should win, but at 23-22-10 they're due for a loss. I'll say they get down 3-0 early storm back in the last 5 minutes but come up short... 4-2. Quote
TrueBlueGED Posted February 12, 2017 Report Posted February 12, 2017 That would have been terrible. Afternoon games suck. Correct. Afternoon games are the Josh Gorges of game times. Quote
inkman Posted February 12, 2017 Author Report Posted February 12, 2017 Correct. Afternoon games are the Josh Gorges of game times. It's a boring ass Sunday in February Quote

PromoTheRobot Posted February 12, 2017 Report Posted February 12, 2017 The 7:30 start time on a completely mundane sports day is stupid We'll be in full nor'easter blizzard mode by 7:30 here in NH. There won't be anything to do but watch TV (as long as my DTV dish isn't full of snow!) Quote
Randall Flagg Posted February 12, 2017 Report Posted February 12, 2017 It's our 7th game in 11 days, and the Canucks' 4th in 6. Insert "The Walking Dead" joke here. "I can't wait to watch The Walking Dead tonight. I wonder if that zombie show will still be on when it ends." Or something. Quote
Brawndo Posted February 12, 2017 Report Posted February 12, 2017 Markstrom gets the start for the Canucks Quote
Mustache of God Posted February 12, 2017 Report Posted February 12, 2017 A win tonight puts us 3 points back of a playoff spot. We won yesterday and since this team is wildly inconsistent I'm expecting them to absolutely the bed tonight. Aside from that, I hope they shake that bug and come out strong. Disappointed you wont' see Miller in net tonight? Don't be! After the Sabres go up 4-0 midway through the 2nd he'll go in as relief and we'll all get a glimpse of the wtf miller wave in the 3rd. Go SABRES. Quote
