WildCard Posted August 14, 2017 Author Report Posted August 14, 2017 Both Beane and McDermott claim they are trying to win an rebuild at the same time. When you try to do both you get neither winning or rebuilding. Well, they're lying to you. It's pretty obvious they are not trying to win now
That Aud Smell Posted August 14, 2017 Report Posted August 14, 2017 Well, they're lying to you. It's pretty obvious they are not trying to win now Then why keep McCoy? They gotta deal him.
jeffismagic Posted August 14, 2017 Report Posted August 14, 2017 Well, they're lying to you. It's pretty obvious they are not trying to win now Brought back Tyrod. Brought back Kyle Williams. Shady McCoy still here. Signed Anquan Boldin. Got back a WR and CB when they traded those two away. Didn't draft for upside but chose players who were more "pro-ready" Threw away draft picks trading up to fill needs at RT and WR in the draft. Signed garbage depth players like Holmes and Ducasse to win this year over high 3rd and 4th round draft picks. If this is a rebuild it is not a very good one.
WildCard Posted August 14, 2017 Author Report Posted August 14, 2017 Then why keep McCoy? They gotta deal him. What are you going to get for him? A 3rd? Might as well keep him so the rookie running back you have next year has some sort of running game and isn't murdered Gaines is back on the field. Terrible rebuild
Eleven Posted August 14, 2017 Report Posted August 14, 2017 1. Team wasn't going to win this year with Watkins and Darby. 2. Watkins was not going to be here next year. 3. Team did not get *significantly* worse at either position. 4. Team now has 2 firsts, 2 seconds, 2 thirds in 2018. This year is going to suck, but it was going to suck anyway. These were smart moves. I can understand it if Taylor is pissed, especially since he took that pay cut and spent so much time working with Watkins, but these were smart moves.

Might as well keep him so the rookie running back you have next year has some sort of running game and isn't murdered Depending on the team, I think you could do better than a 3rd. It could be a conditional deal as well. I'm not sure what point you're making about the rookie RB. 1. Team wasn't going to win this year with Watkins and Darby. 2. Watkins was not going to be here next year. 3. Team did not get *significantly* worse at either position. 4. Team now has 2 firsts, 2 seconds, 2 thirds in 2018. I can understand it if Taylor is pissed, especially since he took that pay cut and spent so much time working with Watkins, but these were smart moves. I agree that the moves of last week were smart ones. However, this year is going to especially suck if the really good pros still on the roster, like McCoy, manage to scratch together 6, 7, or 8 wins. That sort of outcome would suck far more than an ostensibly disastrous 3 or 4 win campaign.

You can like trading Watkins but Bills had the 5th year option and the franchise tag. So Bills gave up control and in return all they receive in draft capital is a measley 2nd round pick. The Bills made the call he would not be here, it was not just an unlucky circumstance. Assuming they out maneuver and out smart other hungry for QB teams in the 2018 draft ( a big assumption) they will still need to find a #1 WR. And that means another #1 pick on the position after spending 2 1s and a 2 recently.

SwampD Posted August 14, 2017 Report Posted August 14, 2017 Both Beane and McDermott claim they are trying to win an rebuild at the same time. When you try to do both you get neither winning or rebuilding. I do not believe that. I never have.
LGR4GM Posted August 14, 2017 Report Posted August 14, 2017 Both Beane and McDermott claim they are trying to win an rebuild at the same time. When you try to do both you get neither winning or rebuilding. Im sorry are you lecturing the Sabres board on how winning and rebuilding and tanking work?
jeffismagic Posted August 14, 2017 Report Posted August 14, 2017 I do not believe that. I never have. Not sure what you are saying. Are you in agreement that middling it does not work? Or do you believe middling it can work? Im sorry are you lecturing the Sabres board on how winning and rebuilding and tanking work? What is your point?
WildCard Posted August 14, 2017 Author Report Posted August 14, 2017 Im sorry are you lecturing the Sabres board on how winning and rebuilding and tanking work? Considering this is the only thread he really posts in, I'm not sure he knows this is a Sabres board
jeffismagic Posted August 14, 2017 Report Posted August 14, 2017 Considering this is the only thread he really posts in, I'm not sure he knows this is a Sabres board I have been following this board for years. And I have posts in several other threads. But keep lying. If you feel it helps strengthen your weak assertion.
LGR4GM Posted August 14, 2017 Report Posted August 14, 2017 Not sure what you are saying. Are you in agreement that middling it does not work? Or do you believe middling it can work? What is your point? Believe me, everyone who posts here knows how tanking and rebuilds work. The Sabres started theirs in 2013/2014. Thats my point.
SwampD Posted August 14, 2017 Report Posted August 14, 2017 Not sure what you are saying. Are you in agreement that middling it does not work? Or do you believe middling it can work? I believe that a team can improve no matter where they end up. You do not need to tank to improve. So, yes, you can "middling it" and improve the next year.

jeffismagic Posted August 14, 2017 Report Posted August 14, 2017 But I need your validation that I'm not a mindless sheep Well, when you want to discuss football I'll be glad to do it. Not interested in petty personal attacks. I believe that a team can improve no matter where they end up. You do not need to tank to improve. So, yes, you can "middling it" and improve the next year. This was the philosophy of the Bills under Russ Brandon and Dick Jauron. Now it is back with Brandon, Beane, and McDermott.
WildCard Posted August 14, 2017 Author Report Posted August 14, 2017 Well, when you want to discuss football I'll be glad to do it. Not interested in petty personal attacks. Not really interested in circular discussions so I guess this is the end of us.
LGR4GM Posted August 14, 2017 Report Posted August 14, 2017 My point was the Bills did not commit to a rebuild. Are you saying this is rebuild year 1? Looks like the start of a rebuild to me. Whether they actually carry it through or not will be another thing. Better to let things play out first. A tank is not the same as a rebuild. Not really interested in circular discussions so I guess this is the end of us.

Better to let things play out first. A tank is not the same as a rebuild. Ok, I will grant you that they are making rebuilding moves. My issue is they are not aggressive enough in maximizing future assets if they don't plan on making the playoffs. We shall see how this shakes out soon enough.

Right, you want them to tank the season. Strip the roster of offensive talent, stockpile more picks and draft high.

Well, It's what they did, anyway. We don't know if it was their philosophy. So, I'm guessing that you believe that the only way to get good is to bottom out, and I think that that is BS.
