Buffalo Bills 2017-18

Not to hit the bee's nest with a stick or anything, but this makes no sense. Why can't they be both? Logically (I know, I know), even if they are just a financial investment, then wouldn't the Pegulas want to win because a winning franchise is worth more way more than a losing one?

Yes, why can't they make money AND build a winner? Makes sense. Unfortunately, it seems to be the same old Bills. I expect nothing to change until Russ Brandon is shown the door. No serious coaching search, a sham GM search, and another year of no attempt to improve at QB.

Well, they did get rid of Rex.

These things are always good.

Why Your Team Sucks - Bills 2017

The comments from Bills fans are the best part.

Stan:

McDermott explained how he successfully recruited Brandon Beane from the Carolina front office: He sent him a text message attaching a picture of the book McDermott was reading, called “Chase the Lion: If Your Dream Doesn’t Scare You, It’s Too Small.” This is some dipshit self-help book by Mark Batterson, the veiled-prosperity-gospel preacher who founded National Community Church. Per the publisher, Batterson’s book is based on “the story in Second Samuel of Benaiah, who became King David’s bodyguard and the leader of Israel’s army” and “challenges you to follow God’s leading, act boldly on your audacious goals, and bravely plan for what comes after accomplishment.”

I mean - fu&* me.

There is absolutely no evidence of this.

There's never evidence with him.  He simply cannot wrap his mind around the fact that anything the Bills did prior to their ownership has nothing to do with them.  That it's actually a fact and saying "same old Bills" is just lazy thinking.  It's just easier for him to understand - I assume for coping reasons.

They haven't tried to find a QB - blah blah blah.  They spend almost nearly to the cap because they're just trying trick me into buying tickets - blah blah blah.  I pretend to know Russ Brandon's impact - blah blah blah.

The Pegulas have owned the Bills since 2014. Please name the QB prospects that have been drafted or traded for at this time.

The best move they have made was signing Baltimore's backup at a cheap rate and he played better than expected. But in a league driven by QB play and a division where Tom Brady plays what they have done at this position is effectively zero. They had a crucial draft this year and did not even have a GM in place. They were planning on firing Whaley and so they let the first year head coach pick players despite ZERO relevant scouting experience.

This is incompetence, not willful purpose to be frugal.

The argument about what the Pegulas really want is a bit pointless at this time. Most fans buy into the fact that they want to win and help the city. I was there but the more I have learned the less I believe that. Let's put this away and this topic can be revisited at the end of the season.

We've revisited it so many times here already, I'd rather not honestly. They've dumped money into every single aspect of both teams, and the city. Don't really know what else there is to say

Well, they did fire the bozo GM who was primarily responsible for the failure to bring in a QB.

It's hard to separate Whaley from Brandon. My understanding is that they were close at first but had a falling out over the Rex hire which Brandon pushed for and Doug pushed back against. I was told by people that work for the Bills that Whaley pushed to draft a QB this year and was over ruled by Sean McDermott who did not want to develop a QB this year but "push for the playoffs".

So who did you want? Watson or Mahomes?

Mahomes. Actually, a great many Bills fans on TBD wanted him as well but I came to be known as the biggest Mahomes proponent. The last QB that I wanted before a draft that bad and thought he could become a Bill was Big Ben.

I still think this upcoming draft is the one to take a QB in. I don't like QB's coming from spread offenses personally.

I think the idea of getting a "pro-style" QB is for the older dinosaur scouts. Yes, it is nice when a QB plays in a system that is closer to an NFL offense. But the biggest challenge for young QB's, regardless of what offense they run, is reading NFL defenses. And that is the same for all as pro-style college QB's play the same college defenses as everyone else.

See Derek Carr as a perfect example of a top QB prospect drafted too low because he played in a gimmick, spread offense. Mahomes is a better Derek Carr type prospect and the QB gurus saw that.

College defenses vary wildly. I have no problem with liking Mahomes but considering the Bills have so many needs currently not taking him in the first if they weren't comfortable is fine. If they don't get a QB next year, we can revisit this. It should be a priority and they should be taking a QB almost every year. Qb's are like Goalies, take one somewhere in the draft every year and see what happens.

I agree with taking them often. In fact, my QB plan was to hire a top QB guru such as Kyle Shanahan or Jim Bob Cooter as head coach. These guys just know QB's better than guys like Rex and Sean McD. Then draft Mahomes with their pick. Get him into some games this year and if need be they would have another top 5 pick next year to also draft a QB if Mahomes did not look the part. The point is to get aggressive. The Bills have only spent 2 picks in the first two rounds on QB in the last two decades. That is why they are what they are. Browns and Jets will soon pass them if they keep this up.

I think drafting QB's is good but I don't think you always need to use your first rounder on them. I agree they need someone who is just on the coaching staff to evaluate QB's and groom them, and I don't mean just some rando QB coach. Go get someone really really good. I would like to see the Bills get more aggressive at finding a QB but I am not willing to crucify the new coaching staff for not taking one this year. Next year though I will.

Mahomes sux.

There are throws he’s making in 11-on-11 and 7-on-7 situations that, literally, they just stop the film and they go, ‘Did he just do that?’ The same kind of things you saw at Texas Tech but people were going, ‘Hey, he won’t be able to do that in the NFL. You can’t get away with that in the NFL.’

“Well, so far, even though it’s practice and it’s not against a live rush and an opponent that’s game planning for you, people are going, ‘OK, guys, let’s just make sure that we stay calm here.’ Because the tendency then is to rush him into a situation that he’s not really ready for.

“Trust me, the hype is real with this guy. They just have to keep it under control and stay on plan. When they unveil him, look out.”
