Thorner Posted June 17, 2017 Report Posted June 17, 2017 Sorry if this is a dumb question, but how will the VGK's trades be announced? I can't see the NHL stating that "the Sabres traded their 4th round pick for the VGK for then to have to choose Zack Bogosian." But they can't leave it without outlining some type of compensation like, the Sabres send their 4th round pick to the VGK for "we're not going to tell you why". How will this work?? Future considerations. Quote
Tondas Posted June 17, 2017 Report Posted June 17, 2017 Future considerations. Ok. Didn't know the NHL did the "future considerations" thing? Quote
Thorner Posted June 17, 2017 Report Posted June 17, 2017 Ok. Didn't know the NHL did the "future considerations" thing? Haha I'm not actually sure. I'm pretty sure it at least used to be a thing. Quote
Scottysabres Posted June 17, 2017 Report Posted June 17, 2017 I think we lose Bogo. I can't see them taking Ennis or Moulson. But, if its anyone of those 3, I'm content Quote

My guess is that the trade would be worded as buffalo trades X in return for Vegas picking Y rather then "not" picking Z. But that's just a guess. Quote
Tondas Posted June 17, 2017 Report Posted June 17, 2017 My guess is that the trade would be worded as buffalo trades X in return for Vegas picking Y rather then "not" picking Z. But that's just a guess. That would be informative but would be very player unfriendly (and the union should object). Basically, it could say the Sabres trade their 1st round pick to the VGK for them to have to take Moulson. How would Matt feel that the Sabres had to give up a 1st round pick just to get rid of him. The "trade" would be Moulson and the Sabres 1st for nothing (except cap relief). Quote
tom webster Posted June 17, 2017 Report Posted June 17, 2017 You really think the players don't know what's going on? Quote
Sabel79 Posted June 17, 2017 Report Posted June 17, 2017 Plus which, he'd be gone and the Sabres would not have to deal with him or his feelings going forward in any event. Matty Mo's still cashing the same check either way. Quote

Do you guys know for sure that what you say is the truth? I get that for 5 million, Matt is a big, rich boy and needs to suck it up. But I find the release of this information to the public would be very insensitive. Do you guys know or are you speculating and/or sharing your opinions? Quote

In this specific case, George McPhee is Moulson's wife's godfather so I don't think there will be any secrets. In general, I'm not sure how trades will be handled but I'm sure all players exposed will get some explanation as to the organization's thinking. Quote
Lanny Posted June 17, 2017 Report Posted June 17, 2017 (edited) My guess is they'll announce the team Later they'll announce picks that went to/from LV with it termed as "expansion draft considerations." And then an hour later the insider from every team will have what the terms were on twitter Edited June 17, 2017 by Lanny Quote

Are we left to speculate as usual? My guess is they'll announce the team Later they'll announce picks that went to/from LV with it termed as "expansion draft considerations." I know "future considerations" used to be a catch-all, but I thought they went away from that. Used to be cash was a future consideration but no longer in the salary cap era. I'm not trying to be pedantic, just wanted to know if the public would ever be privy (couldn't resist the whaley shot) to what the bargains with the VGN were. Quote
DarthEbriate Posted June 17, 2017 Report Posted June 17, 2017 I'm still fine with LV taking Bogosian, but with Antipin and Bealieu -- we now have depth (Antipin has yet to prove anything, but he should be top-6 caliber given his play in the KHL and the Russian national team.) So I'm OK with keeping Bogo through the expansion draft and seeing what he can do with his skating ability and Housley's tutelage. The question is: what kind of team does LV want. Maybe reclamation and excitement (Ennis), maybe unafraid of salary and needing a PP net-front garbage goal man (Moulson), and maybe some international flair and top-4 capability (the dark horse candidate Kulikov). I hope they don't take Ullmark because Petersen has joined the Academy and gotten off the Lars homestead, Biggs-style. Quote

I just don't need to know all the background dealings. Some do. No judging. Quote

SabresBaltimore Posted June 17, 2017 Author Report Posted June 17, 2017 The Washington Post just published the Capitals list. Anyone seen something about ours yet? I know they will be officially announced tomorrow, but apparently that didn't stop the Post. Quote
LGR4GM Posted June 17, 2017 Report Posted June 17, 2017 Sounds like Vegas wants picks more than players in expansion. Quote
Thorner Posted June 18, 2017 Report Posted June 18, 2017 So it's gotta be: 7: O'Reilly, Okposo, Kane, Girgensons, Foligno, Larsson, Carrier 3: Ristolainen, McCabe, Beaulieu Right? Not sure on the 'Tender. Quote
Thorner Posted June 18, 2017 Report Posted June 18, 2017 Was listening to the nhl radio network and they were interviewing a Montreal broadcaster. He says JBot stole Beaulieuand that the kid is about to come into his own and could be a top 4 guy this coming season. Thinks he is a good fit in Buffalo and could come back to haunt the Habs. Jbot is protecting this kid and exposing Bogo and his contract. Maybe the deal with LV is for Bogo? I'm not proposing this, but in theory if Jbot like Bogo and doesn't want to risk losing him, he could go 4-4-1 and protect 4 D plus ROR, Okposo, Kane and probably Foligno. This would leave Ennis, Larsson, Big Z and Carrier exposed. JBot might hope that LV grabs one of these 3/4th line forwards instead Ullmark. Or this. Quote
