WildCard Posted August 2, 2017 Report Posted August 2, 2017 If I could do it all over again I'd go hundreds of thousands in debt to go to FSU Quote
Randall Flagg Posted August 2, 2017 Report Posted August 2, 2017 My laptop decided to update when I last restarted it on Friday, and ever since then the fan will not shut off while it's running, even if I just have one tab open on one internet browser. I don't know about computers. What can I do to stop this? Quote

WildCard Posted August 2, 2017 Report Posted August 2, 2017 You mean the girls don't you.... Of course. Hands down best out of any D1 school. That or Arizona State, that place always sounded wild. Plus, it would be awesome to go to a school with a national championship caliber football team, and a very good baseball team. Quote

I don't know ###### about computers. What can I do to stop this? When in doubt do a full shut down and restart. Microsoft is the bane of my existence, but that little trick seems to work wonders. josie Posted August 2, 2017 Report Posted August 2, 2017 People ask me if I'd ever move back home. I always tell them that the minute I become independently wealthy I would be on the phone with a builder and a real estate agent to find me some land back home in the country to build my dream house on. There is nothing in my hometown. I just love it there. It's home, after all. Besides, it's hard to get good Italian food here. I like the country near my hometown, even though it's super super flat. But the town itself is an incredibly superficial, wealthy, stereotypical suburbia place that thinks it's more important than it is. No real culture to speak of; after all, brown people are scary. Loads of mcmansions (many sitting empty post housing bubble burst). Boys will be boys mentality. Everyone is blonde or has the "I want to speak to the manager" haircut and wears the same clothes. Huge opioid problem. There is no live and let live there. D4rk figured I was just exaggerating. Then he went there with me. I've never really come across another place like it. I won't say I'll never go back to Ohio, I genuinely have love for the place. Cue the "oh it's an armpit I've been on the 90/to downtown Cleveland/etc" comments. Just not settling back into my hometown. Quote
Randall Flagg Posted August 2, 2017 Report Posted August 2, 2017 Clean out yo fan. It's really easyI was going to do this as soon as the box with a screwdriver was shipped out to me, but I was wondering what about the update could make it do that because it was an instantaneous problem as soon as the updates finished and was never an issue before. What did you update and what browser do you use? Windows? I'd bet anything if you put whatever update you did into google with ' performance issues' or something similar you'd find out why. Quote

The other option being that the two things are completely unrelated. Quote
WildCard Posted August 2, 2017 Report Posted August 2, 2017 Yup. The other option being that the two things are completely unrelated. Could very well be, which is why I recommend just cleaning the fan. Could just be coincidental Quote

I'm not sure what updated - you know how sometimes when Windows gets ready to put in an update, they force you to do it if you want to shut down or restart your computer? That's all I did. And I use chrome. It was an automatic thing and I didn't look closely at it because I was in the middle of packing. I wish I understood this stuff better. And I'd also bet a small amount of money it's coincidental, but since I need to wait another day or two for a screwdriver to clean the fan and check, I figured I'd ask to see if the update could have had something to do with it because of HOW coincidental it was. The update may have changed the thresholds for the fan to turn on/run. How old is the computer? Are we talking about a desktop or a laptop? Quote

Randall Flagg Posted August 2, 2017 Report Posted August 2, 2017 Running Windows 10? Yessir. It's probably some weird conflict that is happening with Dell specific components. I think you're right: Is it that thing I highlighted? It'd jump to 40-60% when the fan goes crazy, and isn't CPU supposed to be a lot lower than that? Quote
