darksabre Posted July 17, 2017 Report Posted July 17, 2017 Bees are incredible. There is a chapter in the Qur'an dedicated to the bee. Got a link to the text online? Quote
ubkev Posted July 17, 2017 Report Posted July 17, 2017 I know a guy who keeps bees. He has his own honey and all kinds of honey flavored liquors. Quote
Sabres Fan in NS Posted July 17, 2017 Report Posted July 17, 2017 (edited) Got a link to the text online? http://www.islam101.com/quran/yusufAli/ Above is a link to the only English interpretation that I fully trust. It is by Abdullah Yusuf Ali, who dedicated a large portion of his life to this work (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abdullah_Yusuf_Ali) The Sura (Chapter) is 16. Like most of the Qur'an there are many topics covered in each Sura, but the name of the Sura will highlight the main focus. The part about the Bee is only two Ayat (verses) long, but it is extremely enlightening. The Ayat about the Bee are 68 and 69. Please understand that it was well over 1,000 years after this revelation was revealed that modern man and our modern science figured out how the Bee works to make it's dwellings and navigates to the flowers and back to the hive. How they make honey and it's health benefits. Not to mention the 'dances' they perform and the information that they relay to the hive. EDIT TO ADD: A disclaimer that the above is strictly to inform. I am not preaching, as there must be no compulsion in Religion. Salam / Peace. Edited July 17, 2017 by Sabres Fan In NS Quote

shrader Posted July 17, 2017 Report Posted July 17, 2017 Honeybees are awesome. I really enjoy watching them collect pollen. Hornets, on the other hand, are ######. These bushes really struggled for a while, so I take the bees as a very positive sign. My only complaint is that I need to trim them a bit, but there's always a damn bee buzzing around. Quote

Ogre Posted July 18, 2017 Report Posted July 18, 2017 No beer at all today. My gut has been getting fat so I'm back in the gym and cutting out beer. I've been drinking tequila and a squeeze of lime on ice all night. Not sure if I'll consume more or less alcohol this way but I'll cut some calories for sure. Quote
MattPie Posted July 18, 2017 Report Posted July 18, 2017 I was getting nginx error pages today. Bad gateway, error 502. Since this is the random thread and we're talking numbers, when driving I'll see highway numbers that have some significance in tech and they make me chuckle. My two favorites are PA443 (The HTTP over SSL Highway) and DE404, Highway not found. Quote

SwampD Posted July 20, 2017 Report Posted July 20, 2017 Ah, the arts. Humanity’s record of our all-too-fleeting hopes and dreams, sent floating like paper lanterns into the river of time, a softly flickering message to future generations that we, too, once lived and breathed and loved. But in this benighted age, it seems like fewer and fewer of us even find time to ask the big questions art has always sought to address, much less seek to answer them in our own work. There are many causes for our ever-accelerating cultural decline—slashed education budgets, structural inequality, avocado toast—but there’s only one solution, at least on the individual level: buckling down and building the skills necessary to express oneself artistically, no matter what structural or cultural obstacles are thrown in the way by those who would bar the temple door from fear or ignorance. -By Matthew Dessem I say hone your craft, say what you want to say, and eat avocado toast. Side note. Do they really call guacamole "smashed avocado" in Australia? Or are they different? Quote

Unfortunately, the only way to get the weight loss you seek is to cut out the alcohol entirely (or do tons of cadio every day). It's not just the calories and carbs in the beer but the indirect cause of your body having to metabolize the alcohol as fuel first above all else that leads to weight gain. In the interest of full disclosure, I'm a teetotaler so take my words with a grain of salt but if you research it you'll see it's true. https://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/md19.htm Edited July 21, 2017 by Saratoga Sabres Fan Quote

I've got that covered all day everyday. Literally. The anti beer diet was anti iT so I've altered my work day diet. My stomach growls a lot but my abs are recognizable again. We as a nation simply eat too much. I'm not saying there's no merit to the argument that the human body will process alcohol before anything else. Im saying between Iron Working, the gym and maintaining 9 acres I burned enough calories and replenish enough with a sensible diet to enjoy some beers in the tub. I am currently doing that exact thing right now!! Lost enough weight this week to buckle my 30 waist jeans without sucking in. Giggidy. Quote

biodork Posted July 23, 2017 Report Posted July 23, 2017 I've chewed Trident stick gum pretty much every day since high school because I hate the feeling of food in my teeth, residual coffee flavor, etc. They just changed their packaging, and I really didn't think I could get so upset about gum packaging, but I hate it. The new package has 14 taller pieces of gum instead of 18 shorter sticks, so not only do I get way fewer pieces for the same price, but those pieces are also bigger than they need to be. BOOOO. Quote

shrader Posted July 24, 2017 Report Posted July 24, 2017 I was in Home Depot this weekend and this old guy approached me because I was wearing a BU t-shirt. He was originally from Cape Cod, so he started talking Boston sports right away. I quickly dodged the *patriots talk right away telling him I was from Buffalo and more of a hockey guy. He told me he still kept up with all of the Boston teams except for the Bruins. He said "I gave up on them when they traded away Bobby Orr, so it's been almost 30 years". I didn't have the heart to tell him that it's actually been over 40. Quote
