The even randomer thread

Oooo that's a good idea.

If you're interested, I could probably help you get in touch with the right person. They'd probably even buy you lunch to chat about it.

And if you're not interested, I won't be offended at all :)

That's really cool!

I just applied for a part time gig cleaning out fancy shmancy stables in Clarence. Basically what I do as a volunteer for free every weekend.

It's kind of exactly what I want- physical work where I learn something in a world I enjoy, but still have enough time to work on my freelance/hunt down a full time gig. I've been offered some leads for an office worker type job, but if I'm going to only do part time and have a choice between barns and sitting in a cubicle, I think I'll be outside getting muddy.

Now that my move to Buffalo as a permanent resident is less than two weeks away, I'm thinking about what I could do for a side gig. I'd like to make a little extra money to help pay down some debts, but I'd also like to learn how to do something new at the same time. It could even be something that starts as volunteer work. Trying to better myself now that my life will have a little more flexibility.

You should consider joining a volunteer fire dept. Buffalo is paid obviously but if you're close enough to a suburb they'd take you. There's no pay but typically a losap which is a pension/ annuity.

I've thought about it. Have many friends who do. My job also increasingly requires interaction with fire departments, which could give me some credibility in those situations.

It's honestly one of the most amazing things you can do, and you'll be helping people in an immeasurable way. So many benefits too.

If I get to sit on the deck, drink, and make catcalls it might be enough entertainment to look past alot of errors.

For whatever reason, I picture d4rk painting a stick figure version of one of Josie's previous Sabre pictures on the side of your house.

:P

And We've making catcalls has me imagining d4rk in daisy dukes and a cropped gingham front tie shirt as he paints, a la pinup girl.

Saturdays are for the boys, I guess....

I'd let D4rk paint 3 sides of my house if that means I can convince Josie to paint some sweet mural on the front of the house. Whatever D4rk up I can just repaint. :nana:

See, I think he should do his version of whatever mural she comes up with.  It'll be a nice contrast of styles.

Like when couples go to those "paint night" events at local bars. The artistic one's painting turns out "good" and their significant other's effort is... "less good". :bag:

I know it makes me a horrible person but I SO badly want to go to one of those. But they do make you paint with their brushes and tempera paint which... is hard to make look good. Sneak in my own acrylics and just be a total dick.

That or start my own.

Instead of wine (good lord I am SO sick of wine culture. wine wine whine wine oh my god becky/ashleigh/courtney/something-y, like, wine is my whole personality teehee), beer and shots of whiskey, topics are sh!t like four horsemen of the apocalypse, Frank Frazetta style fantasy, wizard van style stuff, paint a sports figure, or hell, keep it educational and actually teach how to paint various things.

Ok, I went off topic and sound like a pretentious tw@t now.

I'm in.

Mural painting is tough, though. Gets warped and goofy reaaallll easy. I used to have a few pops and randomly paint the walls and floor of our old studio. Usually came out pretty well. Admittedly, wasn't particularly respectable stuff- grumpy cowboys and AK-47s and greaser punks...

The wife and I did one of those once.  I'm not sure which picture was worse.  We did whatever the hell we wanted instead of following their lead.

All that matters is you have fun!

Some of my pro artist pals go to those as a way to relax and paint without worrying about it and be silly. You kinda lose the fun in art if you do it 24/7. I'm glad those places can be an outlet.

the one we did wanted us to paint the water bright orange. The sky is yellow and the water is orange. It didn't make any sense to me but I wasn't about to go off script...
