Sabres Fan in NS Posted April 4, 2020 Report Posted April 4, 2020 How come I can't post a rebutal in the plain chip thread? I voted 'other' only because none was not an option. Why would anyone want to eat a plain potato chip. Kettle - Salt and Fresh Ground Pepper, or go home and have them there ... that's my vote. Quote
Ogre Posted April 4, 2020 Report Posted April 4, 2020 I grew popcorn for the first time last year. The deer were the biggest problem so I resolved to plant three times as much in the hopes they can’t eat it all. Anyways that got me wondering if I could just buy a few bags of Jolly Time instead of the expensive product from seed suppliers. All five kernels I attempted sprouted. This would be fun to do with kids too I’d think. What you need: Commercial popcorn kernels Damp(not dripping) paper towels Ziplock bag with slots cut in the top side(roots need plenty of oxygen) Dark colored dish towel to wrap the setup in to protect it from light. Could also just put them in a drawer. This amount of sprouting was less than a week.... Good God, I am a garden nerd. 4 Quote
Weave Posted April 4, 2020 Report Posted April 4, 2020 The only issue that I am aware of that you might find with planting seeds from an edible product is often the plants that produce the edible product are 1st gen crosses, and while they get the flavor, etc traits form the cross, the genetic result in their seeds may not give you the same product when you plant it. You may end up with one of the base plants that made the cross. Happens with hot peppers all the time. Some of those peppers are 1st gen crosses and when you plant the seeds from them you get one of the base plants that produced the cross. But it'll be a cool experiment. Quote

I had read about “suicide seeds” but I wasn’t sure if they were in use. I’ll probably do a 100 plant plot in the NE corner just to see what happens. Quote

I really had no idea that a popcorn kernel could sprout. I'm currently trying to get some lily seeds I gathered at the casino in Sally's Monkey to sprout. They've been in that paper towel for a while, and nothing so far. There hasn't been much sun — I assume you want to put the baggy in a sunny spot. Edited April 4, 2020 by PASabreFan Quote

Ogre Posted April 8, 2020 Report Posted April 8, 2020 I had my second colonoscopy in 18 months this morning. For the last six years I have been suffering with abdominal distress that is down right debilitating at times. None of the doctors took it seriously though. Even after the first perianal abscess that needed to be surgically drained. The very next year(to the day)it came back so I was sent to a colorectal specialist who again drained it. Set me up with a colonoscopy but due to a lack of communication, no biopsies were taken. My symptoms deepened and I started having issues with bleeding. My colorectal decided to do a scope himself and see what’s going on in there. He found a fistula. The best fix was to just filet that sucker open and let it heal from the inside out. Super bloody and painful two month experience. Now you’d think I was good to go. NOT. Started having even more bleeding issues and worsening pain levels so I went through the horrible prep solution experience again and laid on my left shoulder, for which I am still wearing a sling, for this second exam. Worth it. I’m getting answers. Turns out I most likely have what I’ve suspected the entire time. Colitis in the colon and rectum(which I think is actually proctitis). The medicine is insanely expensive but maybe one day I will feel somewhat normal again. Don’t ever let your doctor tell you you’re cray cray. Be adamant! I told the dude doing the procedure(same guy as the first one who I suspect is a few steps away from being a full fledged nitwit)...TAKE BIOPSIES!! Look very closely. I felt had had to detail exactly where I wanted him to look. Now I feel like I’ve been run over by a stampede. High fever and zero energy but at least I can chow down now. Quote

Wyldnwoody44 Posted April 9, 2020 Report Posted April 9, 2020 @Ogrethat's crazy, I've worked with many GI specialists over the years and I feel like they only take urgent/emergent situations seriously. That's painting a broad brush I realize, but just seems to be the overall feel I've gotten from a large sample size. Colitis for that long? Are they thinking ulcerative colitis? Colitis I would have to imagine would have caused some systemic infection/sepsis but it really varies. I'm glad to hear you are on a treatment plan and hope soon you can enjoy sitting on your ass ?
