Stoner Posted December 17, 2016 Report Posted December 17, 2016 Remember when Boychuk hurt himself trying to kill Jack last year? Funny ######. If ROR and KO could one-time Jack's passes they'd each have several more goals. It was more than that. Eichel made him look stupid. Wonder if tonight was attempted payback? You have a great memory, by the way. Quote
thewookie1 Posted December 17, 2016 Report Posted December 17, 2016 I'm still concerned nobody did anything to Boychuk. I'm not only because 2 Sabres were on the scene immediately, Boychuck stayed on Eichel thus preventing any Sabres from actually going after him. Quote
JJFIVEOH Posted December 17, 2016 Report Posted December 17, 2016 The Rangers did nothing to Eakin. It's 2016. I can't believe they didn't do anything either. I guess it's OK because Boychuk checked on Eichel. Maybe they'll give each other a hug after the game. Quote
Taro T Posted December 17, 2016 Report Posted December 17, 2016 I'm still concerned nobody did anything to Boychuk. Hopefully it was a combination of Girlchuk turtling & REALLY needing the pp goal w/ 3 minutes left. Plus, pretty sure they play 'em again in the next 10 days. Johnny'd hope he's suspended then or else he needs to keep his head on a serious swivel. Quote
Doohicksie Posted December 17, 2016 Author Report Posted December 17, 2016 Nope. Guys making $5.5/yr that are on pace for less that 10 goals on the year find ways to mind#### themselves into not lifting the puck when that would guarantee a goal (or find a way to lift it over the net). He has ABSOLUTELY NO confidence at all right now - thankfully. I have no idea what that means. Quote
Thorner Posted December 17, 2016 Report Posted December 17, 2016 I have no idea what that means. Andrew Ladd sux. Quote
Randall Flagg Posted December 17, 2016 Report Posted December 17, 2016 It was more than that. Eichel made him look stupid. Wonder if tonight was attempted payback? You have a great memory, by the way. He certainly did. Thanks - I've always prided myself on remembering obscure things about the Sabres, my family thinks I'm a weirdo Jack looked really good tonight, even if the scoresheet doesn't show it. He can score 60 points this season if he keeps playing like this. Samson needs to get some confidence back. ROR was fighting it a bit, he's not going to miss as many good chances as he did tonight again for a while. Got the win without any of our top guys having big nights (an assist for KO and two points for Risto were all that we got from what I'd call our "scoring players") Quote
inkman Posted December 17, 2016 Report Posted December 17, 2016 They'll address Boychuk early next time they play the isles. Quote

Yeah, to be honest I'm glad we didn't have to kill a penalty with less than 5 left. We'd have maybe proven a point (that we could still prove next time we play them like you say) but we'd have lost in regulation instead of grabbing the ROW. Thorner Posted December 17, 2016 Report Posted December 17, 2016 If we win our games in hand we are in a playoff spot. (Or tied for one, if Tampa does too.) Quote
Taro T Posted December 17, 2016 Report Posted December 17, 2016 I have no idea what that means. It means guys that are gripping the stick really tight can't score on a $2 hooker. He didn't nearly beat the Sabres. At least not anymore than Moulson nearly beat somebody last year. Andrew Ladd sux. That too. Quote
Doohicksie Posted December 17, 2016 Author Report Posted December 17, 2016 Right, and for as bad as they played, they still nearly beat us. (Or were they not ahead well into the 3rd period?) Quote
Randall Flagg Posted December 17, 2016 Report Posted December 17, 2016 I've always tried not to be tooooo hard on Gorges because I'm pretty sure Nolan broke him and can't believe he made it out of that surgery to not be total ECHL trash. But I'm pretty sure Falk and Fedun are better than he is right now, unfortunately. Maybe I have my anti-slow-players blinders on right now. But then I've liked Franson for most of this season. Jumped the Leafs, Wings, and Devils with that win. Quote

I always like to think that the mark of a good team is that they can beat bad teams when they don't play particularly well. Not saying we are a good team yet, but the Isles are certainly a bad one. THEY did nearly beat the Sabres. The particular pile of garbage (Ladd) referred to in the post you quoted DID NOT nearly beat them. Even though he had 60% of an open net to shoot at in the 1st and "got robbed" in a game that went to OT. The Isles version of last year's Matt Moulson (aka Andrew Ladd) did not nearly beat them as he'd've found another way to screw the shot up had Lehner not been 7' 42" and just able to sneak a toe onto the shot (while still having 4" between the pipe & Lehner's skate that Ladd could've scored through even while foolishly keeping the puck on the ice). Sabel79 Posted December 17, 2016 Report Posted December 17, 2016 And would Brad May PLEASE stop standing up for d#####bags like Girlchuk? Sorry Brad, he saw #'s the whole way to the boards; that Jack "turned the wrong way & needs to protect himself" is ####. No wonders you talked Bertuzzi into nearly killing Moore. One of my most vivid Brad May memories: that time he sucker-punched Derek friggin' Plante (I mean, who could ever be angry at that guy?) in his first game back in Buffalo after the trade to Vancouver. One of the biggest scum-buckets ever to play the game. He did Score that one goal in blue and gold, so he gets a pass. him. Quote
That Aud Smell Posted December 17, 2016 Report Posted December 17, 2016 Risto is now tied with Teppo for all-time scoring as a Sabres d-man (scoring as a Sabre only, I infer). Honey hole. I heard it too. Also, per Wiki. "A honey hole (or honeyhole) is slang for a location that yields a valued commodity or resource. A local landmark or road near a honey hole may have "Honey Hole" in its name[1] or as a nickname for a muddy spot.[2]" I'll be darned. Quote

The play that turned me from one of his hugest fans to a frustrated bystander was sucker punching Ulfie (who deserved to be hit cleanly very hard) & breaking his hand. Take 2 more strides and hit him clean. Then noticing that most of the punches he threw in fights came after he'd wrestled the other guy to the ice. Guy was definitely tough & often seems like a good guy off the ice, but there are several moments from his past that make it hard to not be frustrated at comments like that. And his explanation of what's happening on the ice (except when someone's getting ####ed) is usually very insightful. Quote
bunomatic Posted December 17, 2016 Report Posted December 17, 2016 Not sticking up for Boychuck but when Eich hit the boards Boychuck looked genuinely concerned. It was a weird play. Turning this into a nobody stuck up for Miller type of thing is emotion talking. There's a reason he only got 2 minutes. Its all he deserved. Imo . Quote
dudacek Posted December 17, 2016 Report Posted December 17, 2016 (edited) Team won one for Robin last game. Robin won this one for the team. He was definitely zoned in tonight. There were many who weren't. I am still a defender of old warhorses, but Josh Gorges should not be playing. His skating was bad enough without a broken foot. Kulikov is not the smartest brick in the wheelbarrow. Kyle Okposo is what Drew Stafford should have been. Jack Eichel makes watching the Sabres fun again (at least in games like tonight where he moves his feet) ???? analytics. Risto is the kind of player who wins Stanley Cups. You'd have to blind not to see it. Edited December 17, 2016 by dudacek Quote

You'd have to blind not to see it. You should read the main boards over at hf. Now that he is posting good possession numbers away from Gorges, they're talking all about his primary even strength assists and how the amount of them indicates he's not a "true offensive d-man" and how he's going to be a "good second pairing PP specialist". These comments are happening tonight, from people who haven't watched the Sabres this year and do things like pull his +/- and corsi as a 19 year old on a tank team. Quote

I wasn't talking about him, I was talking about the team in general. I thought that's what the "hot pile" referred to way back when. I didn't realize it was a specific reference to Ladd. We've been talking past each other since due to my misinterpretation. Edited December 17, 2016 by Doohickie Quote
