PromoTheRobot Posted November 24, 2016 Report Posted November 24, 2016 (edited) How many more times do we need to see Lehner get beat like a drum in a parade? I know Nilsson would be coming in cold but I bet he'd still be better. Lehner gets faked out so easily he's a sitting duck on shootouts. The last reasons not to I would accept are a) it would hurt his feelings or b) GMTM says keep him in. Edited November 24, 2016 by PromoTheRobot Quote
Stoner Posted November 24, 2016 Report Posted November 24, 2016 How often is this kind of thing done in the NHL? Not that that would color my opinion of the move. I like it. I don't know what HHCDDB would have to lose — except Lehner. Quote
North Buffalo Posted November 24, 2016 Report Posted November 24, 2016 I vote yes... Nilsson on shootouts and less you are convinced the Sabres won't make the playoffs then let Lehner work on it and keep progressing with Tank 3.0 Quote
Randall Flagg Posted November 24, 2016 Report Posted November 24, 2016 I was told by a friend I consider knowledgeable, without fact-checking, that you'd need to put Nilsson in for the OT as well if you want to do something like this. Take that for what it's worth, I don't have time right now to double check it. Quote

Guess it depends on the definition of "once the shootout begins." Quote
Thorner Posted November 26, 2016 Report Posted November 26, 2016 The rule states the goalie can't change (except for injury) once the SO starts. Guess it depends on the definition of "once the shootout begins." I would guess that just means you can't switch goalies depending on the shooter. We'd probably be allowed to stick Nilsson in there for the shootout once OT ended. Quote
pi2000 Posted November 26, 2016 Report Posted November 26, 2016 You can absolutely put a different goalie in for shootouts. Buffalo did it with Ryan Miller a few times because he has such a good shootout record. Makes you wonder if there will ever be a shootout specialist goalie who only ever practices shootouts etc. Hockey's version of a closer if you will. Quote
Wyldnwoody44 Posted November 28, 2016 Report Posted November 28, 2016 Idk, shootouts are just.... Crap. Though I don't hate them. It's always advantage shooter, and the fact that standings and playoff spots are being determined by them is even worse. Just roll with what you have, get better in practice with them. Quote
Drunkard Posted November 28, 2016 Report Posted November 28, 2016 We should definitely bench Lehner for shootouts. Hell, at this point a cardboard cutout of Lehner that got pulled side by side on a string would probably be better at stopping pucks. Maybe we should try that. Quote
