...On Friday night, the Devils skated away with a 2-1 overtime road win in a game that featured an unlikely hero in captain Andy Greene. The steady defenseman was given a penalty shot opportunity 29 seconds into overtime and made no mistake, firing a wrist shot past Sabres goalie Anders Nilsson.

The Sabres must find a way to create more offense no matter who is in the lineup. They have struggled to generate offense with injuries to several key players and rank 29th in the league in goals per game.

Sabres scored a total of 2 goals in their last 3 games, and 5 in their last 5 games. That is just pathetic.   As Kristian stated earlier in this topic, the goalie has to  earn a shut out nearly every game for this team to win.

Here's an interesting comparison between Edmonton's rebuild and ours;  much has been said of Eichel's injury making the Sabres rebuild look so poor compared to Edmonton.  Ok well, the Buffalo roster has scored a total of 68 player points.    Edmonton = 110 points.  Now, of course Connor McDavid is off the charts - 18 points already.   But, the REST of the Edmonton Roster has an aggregate 92 points -  24 points more than the entire Buffalo roster.

Oilers are getting production across the board from their roster, even factoring out their star McDavid.  Buffalo OTOH, is clearly NOT!!  A lot of money has been spent on this team for what seems to be very little!   Kane, Gorges, ad nauseum.  And those players can't be blamed on the previous regime - that's squarely on the shoulders of Tim Murray.  As well as decisions to retain Regier Era players like Ennis.

I would ask how much of the other players production is due to mcdavid clearing ice or creating offense for them? Eichel can and does impact the offense just by being on the ice. Enough to make up the diff, idk. Gorges is on the last year of his deal and was brought in as a much needed grit guy to get them through the lean years and he did his job, imo. Murray is looking for help, lets hope he finds it. If Kane would take something off his shot instead of looking for the perfect snipe every time he might score a few more.

So much here. In regards to Edmonton rebuild, they are getting significant contributions from players like Lucic, Eberle and a few other vets who were drafted several years ahead of Buffalo's rebuild. So you can really compare year 3 of Buffalo's rebuild to year 8 of Edmonton's. As far as Gorges goes, he's a defensive defenseman who should be on a third pair.

Subtract all points where McDavid is involved.  Then subtract away some factor of a team only having to defend more than one scoring line.  It's not quite perfect to compare the two scenarios.  I understand why you feel the way you do however.

Will miss seeing tonight's game traveling back from Niagara University for a youth game there.  I can listen to it on the radio however!

In NJ for tonight's game. Staying at Newark Penn Station Hilton. Fantastic. Jumped PATH into NYC. So easy and convenient. Hotel is connected to train station and indoor walkways to Prudential Center. Very nice.

Also have some #NotMyPres protesters here blocking Market Street on the way to the Prudential Center. Could be interesting this evening.

Probably doesn't want anybody else getting hurt. They've been practicing up until this point and still can't score, so why bother?

I'm being 83.3% sarcastic.

It's my first year with Nhl.tv or whatever it is called.  I've watched 7 or 8 Edmonton games this season.  Like, I'm more excited for them than I am the Sabres games.  Not pulling for Oilers to win, just enjoy watching entertaining / fast / skilled hockey.  To your point, I agree, it's a lot more than Eichel's absence.
