qwksndmonster Posted January 22, 2017 Report Posted January 22, 2017 I partially slept through silence last night. It's a beautiful movie with a lot of interesting philosophical questions about missionary culture. But man, Scorsese did not make any attempt to adapt the book to screen. I really wanna read the book now, though. Quote
Drunkard Posted January 24, 2017 Report Posted January 24, 2017 Sneaky Pete looks good It is. I've watch about half of season 1 so far and really enjoy it. Goliath is another good one on Amazon. Billy Bob Thornton as kind of a less drunken bad santa who practices law instead of cracking safes and dealing with kids. Quote
jsb Posted January 24, 2017 Report Posted January 24, 2017 Just watched Hell or High Water with Chris Pine, Jeff Bridges and Ben Foster, they were all great. Son drove thru Post Texas and said there was no such bank there. Thought it was funny he even looked it up. Texas Midlands Bank which reminded me of Marine Midland. Quote

qwksndmonster Posted January 28, 2017 Report Posted January 28, 2017 (edited) Finally saw Manchester by the Sea to see what all the fuss is about. What a load of horseshit. Nothing happens in this movie. For it to get the Oscar nomination for best picture over Denial and the Handmaiden (and The Lobster and The Witch, but those aren't prestige movies and thus, don't exist) is a farce. Casey Affleck can off. On the plus side, I get to see Arrival and Fences again on the big screen tomorrow. Two damn fine movies. Edited January 28, 2017 by qwksndmonster Quote
GoPre Posted January 28, 2017 Report Posted January 28, 2017 Well past release, but how was The Conjuring 2? As good as the first? Tempted to pick it up. Quote

qwksndmonster Posted January 28, 2017 Report Posted January 28, 2017 I also am changing my top of 2016 list so that Pop Star is #1. It's the best. Quote
Norcal Posted January 30, 2017 Report Posted January 30, 2017 Long John Silver...welcome home. Final season of Black Sails!! ???? Quote

bunomatic Posted February 5, 2017 Report Posted February 5, 2017 That new Matt Damon movie 'The great wall' looks absolutely stupid. Quote
Wyldnwoody44 Posted February 5, 2017 Report Posted February 5, 2017 Just redboxed the disappointments room.... Kate Beckinsale looks extra fine, but otherwise, possibly worse than the witch (looking at you qwk) ;) Seriously no plot, no action, B list talent outside of Kate.... Don't waste your time. Quote
WildCard Posted February 5, 2017 Report Posted February 5, 2017 Saw Hail, Caesar! last night. Utterly confusing and weird movie. Quote

nfreeman Posted February 7, 2017 Report Posted February 7, 2017 I'm giving Homeland a C-minus so far this season. If my wife didn't like it so much, I would bail completely. Also -- 2 of my work colleagues recommended "Ray Donovan." I watched the first episode over the weekend and thought it was utter crapola. If episode 2 isn't any better, I'm out -- but then I have to figure out how to gently inform my work colleagues that I completely disagree with their recommendation. Quote
Thwomp! Posted February 7, 2017 Report Posted February 7, 2017 Just finished up season 1 of Sneaky Pete, which is an Amazon Prime original series. Highly recommended. Created by Bryan Cranston, who also does a great job of playing the very evil bad guy. Great ratings everywhere I've seen. Wife and I really enjoyed it and can't wait for season 2. Quote

My older brother was constantly telling me to watch this show. I was personally boycotting it due in part to the Boston accents and because I blame this show for ruining the final season of Dexter, but I eventually watched all 4 seasons over about a month. It's a decent show and it does pick up the pace somewhat but if you didn't like the first episode at all you're probably not going to like the show. Quote
ubkev Posted February 7, 2017 Report Posted February 7, 2017 -- but then I have to figure out how to gently inform my work colleagues that I completely disagree with their recommendation. I always do the same thing. Verbatim: "eh(face scrunch, shoulder shrug), it's not my thing." And that's all. Quote

Robviously Posted February 11, 2017 Report Posted February 11, 2017 Just got back from seeing John Wick 2. The first John Wick is one of the best action movies of the decade and this one matches it perfectly. Hopefully it's not a long wait until "Chapter 3." Quote

Really hoping they do a prequel of his impossible mission and his life in thst world right as he meets his wife Quote
ubkev Posted February 11, 2017 Report Posted February 11, 2017 John Wick was dope. I'll go see 2 on Tuesday. Quote
inkman Posted February 11, 2017 Report Posted February 11, 2017 (edited) You seem fun. I am. I just think Reaves is an awful actor. Like maybe the worst blockbuster movie actor ever. He and Nick Coppola are Neck and neck. Edited February 11, 2017 by inkman Quote
