North Buffalo Posted October 14, 2016 Report Posted October 14, 2016 Fasching needs to be more physical. Foligno is a good 3rd line checker secondary scorer. He has finally learned to consistently bring it and needs to teach that to Fasching. Molson is done obviously. Ennis looked lost but not giving up just yet. Looked like he was learning system. Grant has a ways to go as far a play level. Its different than preseason. Wonder how soon Sabres bring up some of the kids. Quote
darksabre Posted October 14, 2016 Report Posted October 14, 2016 Evander Kane is Drew Stafford but with a style people prefer. The end results, however, are pretty damn close. *ducks* I can't disagree with this. Quote

Huckleberry Posted October 14, 2016 Report Posted October 14, 2016 Cracked ribs it seems :p Don't think we'll see him and Eichel until 2017. Quote
CallawaySabres Posted October 14, 2016 Report Posted October 14, 2016 Well at least it wasn't four broken ribs.. I want just 1 reeb The "normal" healing time for rib fractures/cracks is usually stated at a minimum of 6 weeks to a maximum of 6 months. Much depends on the general health of the person and specifically of their bones. So they say.... Quote
dudacek Posted October 14, 2016 Report Posted October 14, 2016 Go ahead, watch the concussion he gets in the Winter Classic. And Kane has what? 4 years less in the league? So by 29 at this pace he'll be near some 200 games or so? Crosby has missed more games since Kane has been in the league. Apples to Apples. We're criticizing him for playing too fast and too hard? Give me a break. Guy busted his ass and broke his ribs. I'll take 1 more guy like that over 20 more like Moulson any day You need to chill but this is absolutely right. The board went chicken little with Eichel. Now it's chicken little over a 4-1 loss. Quote
MattPie Posted October 14, 2016 Report Posted October 14, 2016 Ribs: good, I guess. At least it's not a permanent injury or something that'll flare up. Quote
TrueBlueGED Posted October 14, 2016 Report Posted October 14, 2016 Kane is a great 3rd liner. Effective to the point of being an average 2nd line winger. The difference between Kane and Stafford is that Stafford disappeared come playoff time, whereas Kane's hardnosed style is best suited to the war that is playoff hockey. ...until he gets hurt :w00t: Quote
nfreeman Posted October 14, 2016 Report Posted October 14, 2016 I don't see how anyone with functioning eyesight can compare Kane to Stafford. Quote
Eleven Posted October 14, 2016 Report Posted October 14, 2016 I don't see how anyone with functioning eyesight can compare Kane to Stafford. Some silicon-based alien, making its first visit to Earth, might observe that they both are human. I think it ends right about there, though. Quote

I just want to say, I'm not going chicken little, I'm just pointing out that a lot of the problems we saw manifest last night were entirely predictable during the offseason. Granted, I didn't expect every issue to come to fruition at the same time in the first game  And yea, I'm currently day-to-day with a bum shoulder from excessive back patting :p I don't see how anyone with functioning eyesight can compare Kane to Stafford. You're a results-oriented person. Well, the results are quite similar. That's how. Quote
JJFIVEOH Posted October 14, 2016 Report Posted October 14, 2016 There's an advanced stat that says in 5v5 situations, against teams under .500, on a Wednesday, against 2nd pairing defense, at home when the temperature is between 46-72........... Kane and Stafford have the same numbers. Therefore, Kane and Stafford are comparable. Quote

TrueBlueGED Posted October 14, 2016 Report Posted October 14, 2016 Well, you're a fancystats guy, and I'm sure you're aware that Kane's Fenwick and Corsi numbers are much better than Stafford's. Boom! Yes, and I've explained in the past why raw Corsi in isolation doesn't accurately assess Kane's game, how he's a drag on more talented players, etc. Just admit your enjoyment of his play style is causing you to overlook his pedestrian numbers. Admit it! *pounds hand on desk* There's an advanced stat that says in 5v5 situations, against teams under .500, on a Wednesday, against 2nd pairing defense, at home when the temperature is between 46-72........... Kane and Stafford have the same numbers. Therefore, Kane and Stafford are comparable. Kane is a guy who scored 30 goals once, inked a big contract, and hasn't replicated the season. Sorta like what happened to Stafford, and everyone crucified him for it. Kane is a 20-goal mid-40 point player. Just like Stafford was in his prime. Quote
Taro T Posted October 14, 2016 Report Posted October 14, 2016 (edited) Dayum, this is a harsh crowd. When he 1st it, it looked like his shoulder was obliterated. Feared it was hip. Assuming he didn't puncture anything w/ any of the broken ribs, this is probably best case scenario. Should have the least impact on his abilities of any potential (major) injuies coming off that play. Do not envy him w/ trying to breathe the next few weeks. That'll suck. Hope he has a full, quick recovery. Never though a road trip coming the 1st weekend of the season could be well timed & necessary, but the timing should help what appears to be a close-knit team bond even more. Probably couldn't ask for a better set of opponents for the 1st 3 given the circumstances either. Head back east at 2-2 and all is well. Edited October 14, 2016 by Taro T Quote
Randall Flagg Posted October 14, 2016 Report Posted October 14, 2016 Kane's game isn't conducive to playing a structured skill game that guys like Jack and ROR play, but when he's with a guy like Larsson I really like what his skill set does, because Johan can go get the pucks he shoots, and help make a relentless forecheck. We all know why his style doesn't work with a guy like Jack. When Jack is out and ROR is hurt, this team struggles to generate much in terms of quality chances, and Kane's ability to make things happen by himself increase in importance and value to the team. It really sucks that he's out, especially because of the other guys who are out. Quote

Kane has been on a 25 goal pace four of the last five seasons. Stafford hasn't been on a 25 goal pace since he scored 30, six years ago. Pace only matters if there's reason to believe it can be sustained under normal circumstances. Well, normal circumstances for Kane is he's going to miss 15 games. His track record at this point cannot be ignored, it's not like he had an unlucky one season of injuries. (apologies to your corner deli if it indeed makes some real BBQ) Be careful, this place will find some reason to bitch about it. :flirt: Quote

Unfortunely, the head coach doesn't see this and only a couple of days ago saw having Eichel on the left 1/2 boards on the pp being a good thing. The silver lining in all the injuries is that he doesn't really have enough bodies left to NOT put together reasonable lines. Quote
